"Josh."

"Wow, Maya. I thought you would be a little more excited to hear from me." Josh says back, slightly chuckling. I didn't know what to say to him, so I just nervously laughed. I hadn't heard from Josh since High School graduation. He was there for Riley, and only said a simple 'hey Maya' to me, nothing else. After that, I convinced myself to start getting over him.

"So how have you been? It's' been awhile since I saw you." He asked. I still had no idea what was truly happening. After years of not speaking to me, he just decides to call me and tries to start a conversation like we speak all the time. I should just tell him off and go to sleep.

"I've been good..how about you?"
Well that's not what I wanted to say to him.
"I've been happier, but hearing your voice is definitely helping me."
I was about to respond to what he said but he started speaking again.

"So Maya, I was wondering if you wanted to meet up tomorrow around noon-ish at that one coffee shop. I think its called Friar's Coffee House or something like that."

I tried to reject the offer but all that came out was "Okay, I'll see you then."
After that, we said our goodbyes and I ended the call. I can't believe that just happened. Why did I agree with his offer? I should've just come up with an excuse to not see him. Yet of course, I once again couldn't control what I was saying. I really need to fix that, because this happens way too often. It's too late now though. Plus, it's not like I still like him. We're just going to catch up, then I'll make up some lame excuse to get out of there. Easy.

A few minutes later, I finish my snack, throwing away the trash after. Laying down, I turn off the lamp besides my bed, and slowly drift to sleep.

THE NEXT DAY

"Peaches, wake up. It's almost 11:00."

I groan and turn away from the sound of Riley's voice, placing my pillow on top of my face.
"I don't wanna." I mumble, but soon after I say that I remember that I was meeting up with Josh in basically an hour.

"Ugh I forgot I'm meeting someone at noon." I say, sitting up and looking at Riley. She tilts her head and asks me who I was meeting. I tell her it was Josh.

"JOSH? AS IN MY UNCLE JOSH? THE ONE YOU USED TO BE IN LOVE WITH?" she questions, loudly might I add.

"Yes, that Josh. He invited me to have coffee with him."

Riley asks where what place we were going to, but then realized that it was probably Lucas' coffee place, considering my luck over the years.
"Wow! Do you think Lucas will get jealous when he sees you two? Are you trying to make him jealous on purpose? " I chuckle a little and say "That's doubtful, considering he doesn't like me. I'm just another one of his employees."

It was Riley's turn to chuckle. "Okay sure, keep denying that you'll fall in love with each other. It's totally going to happen, but believe what you want." she says to me casually. I hit her arm softly, and get out of bed to get ready. Riley also stands up and begins walking towards the door. Before she exits, she turns back to me and says

"Oh, by the way, I can tell you're already starting to like him. You only said he doesn't like you, I didn't hear you say you didn't like him."

Before she could say anything else I pick up the pillow off my bed and throw it at her. She dodges the pillow and walks out the room, laughing loudly. I smile and start to get ready again.

LATER

When I walk in the coffee shop, it's five past noon. I look around and spot Josh sitting at one of the tables alone, two cups sitting on the table. I walk over to him and sit down on the opposite side of the table. I don't say anything when I sit down. I just wait for him to look up from his phone and acknowledge that I'm in his presence. Looking up from his phone a few seconds later, he looks at me and smirks.

"Wow Maya, you look amazing." he says, obviously flirting. For what reason, I'm not sure. I reply with a simple thanks and we start up a conversation. About ten minutes later, Mr. Friar walks in, a big smile on his face. Then he sees us, and let's just say, I don't ever want to see him look sad like that ever again.
