*Rose's P.O.V*

They were closing in and I knew I was done for, so I closed my eyes and waited. Suddenly the grunting of the zombies stopped and nothing was happening for me. Jeremy came back for me was the first thought I had, but soon after opening my eyes I was proven wrong. I opened my eyes and saw all three zombies lying on the ground with their head slashed open, their carcasses finally put to rest. I looked around, how could this have happened? I then see Devyn come running up to me.

“Devyn! You are alive!” I exclaimed ecstatically.

“Yes I am. I will explain later but for now we have to move, there are more zombies coming in.”

With that we ran out of the room. We stopped when we were standing at the top of the stairs only to see zombies flooding into our front door, there was no way we could escape now.

“What are we going to? We are trapped!” Devyn yelled. An idea came to mind; I had a rope in my closet. We could climb out of the window to escape.

“Follow me!” I said to Devyn as I ran back to my room with my sister right on my trail. We needed to act fast before the zombies came upstairs as well, so I quickly grabbed the rope praying it would be long enough to reach the ground or at least somewhere near it. I had a bad feeling about it because the rope looked too short to reach the ground, but we had no choice. It was our only way out. So I tied it to my bedframe beside my window and threw the rope out of it. Just by looking out the window I could tell it was nowhere near enough to reach the ground but we need to get out this way. My sister offered to go first, but there was the chance she would get hurt so I decided I would go first and catch her at the bottom. I stuck my feet out of the window and grabbed hold of the rope. I used my upper body to lower myself down the rope, closer and closer to the ground.

“Hurry Rose I see them coming down the hallway!” My sister yelled form above me, so I started to go quicker. Before I knew it I had reached the end of the rope and I now had to jump. I did not look down because I knew if I did I would become afraid and it would take me longer, so I closed my eyes and let go of the rope. The second I fell to the ground pain shot up my leg and I yelped out.

“This can’t be happening to me” I thought to myself, knowing I injured myself.

“Are you alright Rose?” My sister asked, there was noticeable concern in her voice.

“I am fine just hurry and come down!” I yelled back. Just as she stared climbing down the rope, I looked up to see the zombies at the window. She got out just in time. She climbed down a lot faster than I did, and soon she was at the end of the rope and jumped off. I caught her so her landing against the stone pavement wasn’t as detrimental to her as it was to me. After I put her down we took a few seconds to look at our surroundings. Surprisingly there were no signs of zombies in our backyard, but we knew if we waited much longer there would be, the backyard was not a safe place to stay. With our surroundings noticed, we started to run. With every step I took a sharp shooting pain ran up my leg but I knew we had to go now. My eyes would black out because the pain was getting extreme but I knew I had to keep going. My sister held my hand and helped me along. There were zombies all around us; I knew we had to run fast. So I sucked up the pain and Devyn and I sprinted out of there. We ran and ran until we were tired and out of breath, but there were zombies in sight so we did not stop. I started to slow down because of the pain, so we finally stopped when no zombies were in sight. It was a field, but trees were everywhere. I sat down and rolled my pants to reveal my ankle. It was swollen, but I knew for a fact it was not broken, most likely just sprained it. Devyn offered to run into the streets, go into a house to get stuff for my ankle but I told her it was not worth the risk.

*Devyns P.O.V*

We sat on the grass and talked. I was very concerned about Rose, but I decided to get her mind off of her ankle. I told her about what happened to me, why I disappeared like I did. When the announcement about the zombie apocalypse was announced, I got scared. I ran to a house across the street that had been abandoned and took shelter there. There were backpacks, food and water. I stayed there, but woke up one morning to see zombies going into my old house. I quickly packed up two bags full of supplies including food, water, and weapons. As I got ready, I saw Jeremy run out of the house without you and I knew something was wrong. I ran into the house and killed the zombies, to rescue Rose. As I explained it to her, she started to cry. I asked what was wrong but she was too upset to talk, so I let her cry on my shoulder, knowing when she calmed down she would talk to me.

*Roses P.O.V*

Everything hit me all at once. With Devyn coming to rescue me I had gotten my mind off everything and actually forgot for a little bit. When Devyn started explaining about how she saw Jeremy run out of the house my heart broke all over again. I cried in the comfort of my sisters arms, knowing she was someone I could always depend on. After a while I decided I would tell my sister about what happened, how Dad killed Mom, and I had to kill Dad. The reminiscing of the loss of our parents was enough to start a few tears from my sister. She was always closer to our parents than I was, so she took the death of our parents a little harder than I did. I continued with the story because I was only getting started on my part. I told her about how Jeremy left me to die, despite his promise to always keep me safe. Jeremy was so horrible to just leave like he did, leave me to get attacked from the things he said he would protect me from. I knew I could never trust him again, I knew I couldn’t trust anyone again. Everyone I loved was gone, except for my sister. From now on it was just her and I, and I plan to keep it that way. I never ever want to feel the heartbreak that I am feeling at this moment.

“Devyn, I never want to love again” I said to her after I explained what all had taken place earlier.

“Don’t say that Rose, just because you had one bad experience does not mean you have to curse off love forever” she replied.

“I don’t want to though; I never want to trust anyone. I can’t handle this heartbreak again. Everyone I cared about has left.”

“Rose, I haven’t left yet; I can promise you I am not going anywhere. We are sisters, we always stick together.”

“It is you and me Devyn, we don’t need anyone else.”

*Devyn’s P.O.V*

It hurt me to see my sister hurt like she was, she never deserved all this pain. I regret running away, I could have stayed so she did not have to deal with everything alone. I told Rose this, and she replied saying that it did not matter, because I was here now. I can’t help but feel guilty for leaving her alone though, no matter what she says. I knew I had to make it up to her; I was going to do that by never leaving her alone again. I was going to live by what she and I said, that we were sisters so we stick together, that is just her and I now. I was perfectly fine with this, Rose needs me and I need her.

“We should go to sleep soon Rose, It is getting late” I said to her.

“Can you sing to me?” She asked me so politely, of course I would.

We shifted around so we could get comfortable, Rose lying in the grass using one of our backpacks as a pillow, and I was sitting up beside her holding her hand.

“We are, friends for life.

 Hold that, deep inside

 Let this, be a drive

To survive

 And just stand, high and tall

 Make sure you give your all

 And if you ever fall

 Know that I’m right here” I sang softly to her. As I reach the chorus, I know she is very close to being asleep.

“We'll always be together, don't you worry

 I'll always be by your side, don't you worry

The circle will never end; just know that we'll meet again

And we'll always be together, forever, always I am here” I finished off the chorus, knowing she was now fast asleep.

“I love you Rose and it will be you and me, forever and always” I whispered to her, and with that I lie down and fell asleep beside my sister.
