*Rose’s P.O.V*

I woke up the next morning expecting to see my sister beside me, but she was not. I bolted up quickly looking around me for any trace of her, but there was nothing. I automatically assumed the worst so I yelled her name out into the open. No response. I started to panic and yelled it louder and rapidly. I was so scared, I couldn’t lose Devyn; she was all I had left. Out of nowhere someone came up behind me and wrapped their hand around my mouth.

*Devyn’s P.O.V*

I woke up the next morning to see Rose peacefully sleeping beside me, and decided to do some exploring for a while before she woke up. I was only going to go around the main area we were in and was not going to go off too far so I could make sure I was back by the time Rose woke up.  As I was walking around, I guess I lost track of time because I had gotten a bit farther away than I had planned. I came to this realization when I heard someone yell out something in the distance, and even though it was very faint I could tell that it was my name being called. I sprinted back in the direction I came from only to hear my name now being called repeatedly. I can’t believe this; Rose is going to catch the attention of every zombie around this area! As I run the voice of my absent-minded sister gets louder, and I finally see her standing there yelling for me.

She must have woken up this morning and not known where I had gone. I felt guilty now, leaving her alone. She had to go through so much the past few days alone and she must have thought I left her. As I saw her, I quickly started running to my sister, who had her back turned to me. As I inched closer, I stuck my arm out and as I reached her I wrapped my hand around her mouth to stop her from yelling. I quickly turned her around so she would see me, and once she did her eyes widened in shock, but I also saw the joy and relief in her eyes. As soon as I took my hand off of her mouth, she wrapped her arms around me in a desperate embrace.

*Rose’s P.O.V*

I can’t believe my sister did not actually leave. I got so scared that she did, that everyone had finally left me. As soon as I saw her, even more I knew I could trust her to always be there for me, no matter what happened. As I hugged my sister, she asked what had gotten into me, and once I explained that I was scared she left me alone Devyn reassured me she would never leave me alone and it was always going to be her and I together.

While we were talking, I was hearing noises in the background. At first I did not pay much attention to them, thinking it was just the wind or something, but as the seconds past the noises got louder. As soon as I became fully aware of the noises and what may be making them, I took my attention away from my sister and looked around. Behind her, about ten feet back were five zombies making their way towards us. We both quickly picked up out bags and started to run in the opposite direction of where the zombies were.

We ran into the area where all the houses were. Surprisingly there were not many zombies in this area, but there was still a few so we quickly went to a house with boarded up windows and doors. I saw in the distance the zombies were moving closer, but we still had a bit of time. Devyn franticly knocked on the door in front of us, hoping that someone would let us in. After a few knocks and no one came to the door, I pushed in front of my sister and pulled on the doorknob, and it eventually opened. Someone must have left, and left the house unlocked. We got inside the abandoned house and locked the door behind us.  We decided to explore the house, first we headed down to the basement. In the basement were loads of guns and bows & arrows.

“This will help us so much Rose, but I don’t know how to use any of it” Devyn said to me.

“Don’t worry; I know a little on how to use both. I can teach you” I reassured her.

With that, we took our chosen weapons. Devyn with a gun, me with the bow & arrows and we went outside for practice. We thought that there were not many zombies around here, and we were close enough to the house that we could get back quickly without being attacked. So I taught my sister how to use the gun, and we practiced on the zombies in the area. At first both of us were rubbish at it, but we got better.

We continued this routine for the next two weeks, sleeping in the safety of this house and during the day training to fight zombies. We would have probably stayed there longer, but our amazing place to stay suddenly turned bad one day that Devyn forgot to lock the door behind her when we went out to train. We came back into the house, thinking everything was normal. It was just another day where we would go to sleep in the safety of this wonderful house we found. We went to the basement to put our things away, when we heard a creeping upstairs. We had only been in the house for about half an hour, what could have gone on? We decided to be cautious, grabbing our bags and weapons just in case. We walked up the stairs and opened the basement door slowly, and when we looked down the hall to the right of us there was nothing there so we exited the basement. Down the hallway to the left though, came the sounds of zombies. As we rounded the corner to see what was there, we spotted about six zombies in the house, plus many more entering through the front door. They had spotted us, we had to get out through the back door. Once we got out, we saw more coming in the distance and we knew we had to leave, but we had a few seconds before we needed to start running.

“What are we going to do now?” Devyn asked me.

“We go out, stop relying on the shelter of the town we always have lived in” I replied

“But how will we be okay out there Rose? It is dangerous” she said.

“We will be okay now Devyn, we are prepared for this”

“Alright Rose, if you think so” She said to me, and with that we set out. We had our bags on our back, our weapons in our hands, and we were finally getting out of the community we have lived in our entire lives. When my sister said out there was dangerous, she was not lying, but I think we can handle it. We have grown a lot together over the past two weeks, we have gotten smarter and faster more able to deal with this new world. We were ready for this, so we said goodbye to everything in our old life, ready to set out into our new one. I knew we would be able to handle anything that came towards us, as long as we stuck together.
