CHAPTER 22

Mom watched me as I ran to the bathroom like a crazed maniac. I would have walked like a normal person, but I felt like my head was about to explode. Sure, people turned to stare, but I really didn't care. I'd never see them again, most likely. I'd rather let them think I had stomach issues than let them see the other half of me.

I burst into the women's bathroom with a loud bang of the door, thankful that nobody was in there, and squeezed into a stall. I plopped down on the lid of a toilet, my head pounding with the stabbing pain.

After a moment, my vision went black and then became quickly clear again, except I wasn't staring at the icy blue door of the stall.

There was The Wolf, as well as Rashal and her boyfriend Jake, both visible to me. The two of them, Rashal and Jake, were walking side by side, holding hands, just outside of the mall. They were no doubt heading for the very same ice cream shop they had just invited me to join them at.

The Wolf had his gaze on Rashal, a hungry, menacing look in his eyes, then suddenly he leaped into the air.

Then the vision disappeared and I was again alone in a blue stall. I jumped up from the toilet and quickly changed into my costume, stuffing my old clothes in my bag. I was faced with another problem; what to do with my bag, but I quickly resolved it by hanging it on the door hook and sliding under the locked stall door so that nobody would go in there.

I ran out of the bathroom, my legs quickly carrying me. Once I broke free of the bathroom, I unleashed my speed, which was difficult in a mall. It was like running through a maze at top speed; I had to avoid people, tables, and kiosks. Once, I nearly crashed into this lady pushing a stroller. That wouldn't have been good for my reputation.

"The Unseen!" someone with good eyes gasped. All they could see was a blur, but nobody normal could be as fast as that, so that's what they assumed. Right, of course.

Other people quickly began chattering loudly as I sped by, but I was heading for the ice cream shop, so they didn't get to see me very long.

I reached the ice cream shop finally and immediately saw Rashal and Jake. I wasn't sure why, but I was still a little jealous that Rashal was hanging out with another person that wasn't me. I mean, somebody that could mean a lot to her, like a boyfriend. I still hoped I would remain her best friend despite this.

"Watch out!" I allowed my voice to yell as loud as possible to attract Rashal's attention. The Wolf was suddenly bounding toward them, seemingly coming out of nowhere.

For a moment, I wondered why in the world he kept on trying to destroy everything and everybody. I mean, I kept stopping him, so why? Was he so evil and ignorant that he just couldn't let himself give up on his idiotic plan?

Rather abruptly, I began to feel furious. Because, well, let's face it: The Wolf was the main cause of many of my visions. If he wasn't destroying things and trying to kill people, I would have been almost normal. Besides the occasional natural disaster, that was.

Rashal recognized me without a single sliver of hesitation and began to run towards me, dragging a confused looking Jake at her side. This was a rather traumatic experience for a first date, no doubt about that. Well, I guess that's what happened when a person had a superhero as their best friend.

The Wolf was nearing, each step bringing him several feet closer, his eyes set on Rashal intently. Heart drumming wildly, I ran past the two, Rashal and Jake, and was suddenly in front of The Wolf. It certainly wasn't easy putting myself out there like that, but I had to do it for the safety of my best friend. He growled as he abruptly stopped, hackles up high in the air, and his eyes glittered like steely emeralds, hard and cold.
