"There's something strange about you, Magnus may buy your story, but I don't. I know a liar when I see one."
"Look, I'm not sure what your problem with me is-maybe it's too much dejavu for you-but for some reason you all remind me of-you know what, never mind. Let's just say I'm not as much a fan of this arrangement as you seem to think. I'll leave you alone and you leave me alone, deal? Once all this stuff gets settled I'll leave you and your precious family and girlfriend alone." I say arching my eyebrow daring him to bite back. I hear the toaster pop and spin around. I missed it. He sees my disgruntled expression and looks at me curiously.
"What's wrong? You missed the waffles pop?" He asks with a laugh in his voice."Yeah, we didn't have them at my old home. It's fun to look at." I tell him smoothly.
"If toasters are that exciting for you, you are in for a wild ride." He laughed
"Now then, will you dig out the apricot jelly from the bottom drawer? They said peach, but everyone likes apricot more. They were just worried you would be too wierded out by apricot jelly and figured they'd spare you. But you know Magnus, you have seen me, and have kept your head this long, I don't think fruit preserves are going to be what makes you run." I force a laugh and go to the fridge hunting for the Jelly. "Maybe it's in the top drawer" I hear Jace say. I find it and turn around. We need Knives...where would knives hide?"Jace, where do you keep the knives?" I ask.
"On the third shelf against the back wall just left of the spears-why?" I look at him "You meant silverware knives. We just had this huge deal reorganizing the weapons room and-never mind. I'll get them out." He puts the Jelly on the waffles and tells me to put the jar back.
After I have put it back in the top drawer, he calls everyone back into the kitchen from wherever they had wandered off to. They sound like a heard of elephants rushing down the halls and back to the kitchen. They all seem so...happy. I finished putting the waffles on paper towels right when they reached the center and Everyone grabbed one and immediately. Maybe they are less like elephants and more like pigs...
"What is this stuff?" Izzy asked practically choking.
"It's waffles and Jelly, what else would it be?" I snapped her.
"Who made this?" Alec asked. I look at Jace with an eyebrow raised.
"Don't look at me, you did the jelly." He says raising his hands."Why would you put apricot jelly on the waffles? It is the most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. Plain old peach would have been just fine but ugh." Magnus chimes in.
"I thought you all would like this more..." I tell them embarrassed.
"I'm sure it was a mistake. Briella, get the jar you used out." Clary said and I quickly obliged. "What's the expiration date on it?" She asked when I showed her the jar.
"February 15, 1976, it'll be good for another what- 20 years? This stuff lives practically forever." I say not understanding the problem.
"What? Even Isabelle wouldn't try that. Where do you even find something 40 years out of date?" Alec says hotly.
"I didn't know. It's just a jar of jelly. Whatever happened to good old strawberry jam?" I exclaimed. Jace snorted and said something about old. "What do you just say?" I snap at him.
"I said-"
"That this is a big misunderstanding, you got the dates and favors mixed up. It happens to all of us. Come on, why don't we go find some real food. Frozen waffles are not meant to be this complicated." Isabelle says pacifying everyone. Everyone nods and we head out down the to busy New York streets. I notice that Isabelle is always on the road side and that Magnus and Alec are at the front laughing about something. Clary and Jace are walking together a little bit behind us. She seems to be fussing at him about something, I wonder if it has to do with me...so many things are going on, I watch everyone trying to figure out as much about them each as I can. I am intently watching them when I realize there is a pack of demons behind us. Why haven't any of the others picked it up yet? I can't just say there's a bunch of Eilodon behind us, nor can I suddenly attack them. My brain races ahead trying to figure out a way to let the others know there are demons stalking us-how have they not realized it yet themselves? They keep creeping closer and closer until one of them prepares to lunge for Clary. I don't even think, I just snatch the blade from Alec's belt and lunge. "Aziele" I cry and swipe it's head off in one smooth action. I jab the other through the heart and the final one I use three swift swipes that take off its arms that were revealed to be tentacles. Each of them crumple slowly into a pile of ash and I smile at myself satisfied. I turn around to ask everyone if they are alright and then I remember-a mundane does not know how to use a sereph blade and kill demons that easily...even Magnus can't help me now. What have I done? I look at them and see A mix of awe, surprise, fear, and accusing flitting across everyone's face.
"What."
"Was."
"That?"
Alec, Izzy and Clary ask me together."What, I'm a shadowhunter right? I mean you said it is in my blood, my instincts. I don't understand what you are all so concerned about. I mean surely you all Jens that those weren't actually normal mundanes." I say. I have to play dumb it is the only way to make it out of this.
"Briella, what are you really? I have twice the amount of angel in my DNA than anyone else-except Jace, and I still can't fight like that."
"Maybe I'm just a natural." I shrug.
"And maybe you're just a liar. Jace sneers. "What are you some sort of spy? Did someone send you or are you on your own planning and creating problems?" I roll my eyes at him.
"Yeah. You caught me. Sebastian Morgenstern hired me to come watch you, feed him information of your every move and keep you safe." I say laying the sarcasm on thick. Isabelle gasps at Sebastian's name. Maybe my tone wasn't as clear as I thought.
"He's... you...WHAT!" She screeches.
"Calm down, I just catch on quickly." I say.
"Okay...Magnus, could you do us a favor?" Clary asks warily. He nods slowly making sparkles rain from his hair.
"Could you see if maybe her memories might be messed with, like how mine were? Maybe she was trained and something happened," clary suggested. Magnus nods his head.
"That would explain all of these." He said motioning to small scars on my arms from where runes once were. I just glare at them all stubbornly.
"What you're just gonna rummage Around through my head? There has got to be some sort of thing that forbids that. But whatever. If it means you will trust me and stop accusing me every time I turn around. Jace," I look over at him through narrowed eyes. Clary looks up at him, her eyebrows close together. I hope I'm not causing any trouble between them.
"Well, then, let me personally escort you to Saint Bane's institution for wayward forgotten Nephilim." Magnus says throwing his hands in the air and suddenly I find myself surrounded by a room that has sparkle streamers hanging from every available surface, dream catchers on the walls, and so many glitter trimmed....lamp shades?
"'Saint Bane's institution for wayward forgotten Nephilim'? What happened to never stopping low enough to mess with the likes of them?"1/8/16
