I sigh. Raziel sent me to Italy to watch over a Shadowhunter named Gloria. She was having difficulties with her pregnancy and Raziel wanted to make sure the baby lived. So here I am, pretending to be a girl who just so happened to have the Sight and is now staying at the Vienna Institute.
I should be leaving soon. Raziel said he wouldn't make me me stay for longer than needed. Right now Gloria and baby Victoria are doing just fine. While I'm walking around the Institute, I hear footsteps behind me. I turn around quickly. When I see who it is, I sigh in relief.
"Hey Michael." I say
Michael is a Guardian Angel, also. Other than Gabriel, he is the only one I get along with. The others are having a hard time seeing that even though I am Nephilim, I am also an angel now, too.
"Hey, Jess." He says, making me blush. "Raziel needs to see you."
My heart speeds up. I haven't seen Raziel since I killed those demons in London, which was over a year ago. I had to come to Italy immediately after I got my wings because that was when Gloria first started having difficulties. At first I watched from outside the Institute, making sure everything was fine. Then, I pretended to be surprised at seeing her oldest son, Victor killing a demon. Obviously, he brought me back to the Institute.
"Okay. Let me just-"
"Jess. You know you aren't supposed to get emotionally connected"
"I know, Michael. Its just that I never got to-."
"Have a family?"
I nod my head. He gets it. I don't know how, but he does. He grabs my hand and squeezes it before sending us through dimensions on our way to Heaven.
When we get there, Raziel is waiting for us. Michael lets go of my hand and gives me a supportive nod before walking off.
"Jessamine. Welcome back." Raziel says
"Thank you, sir. If you don't mind my asking, why did you send for me so hastily?"
He sighs. "My children are in danger. They don't know it yet, but I do."
"What's happening?" I ask innocently.
"I cannot tell you. You just need to be ready for when it does happen. Its going to happen soon, Jessamine. I fear it will be even worse than last year." He shakes his head gravely.
"Sir, where are you sending me?"
He doesn't answer my question.
"Do you remember William?" He says instead."Of course I remember Will, but wha-"
"His last remaining descendant is in danger."
I gasp. Last remaining descendant.
"How? Sir, what is happening?"
"Just go. I am trying to come up with a truce. Right now, you are the only Guardian Angel who knows about any kind of danger. Please try to keep it that way."
"Of course... Where are you sending me?"
"New York City. You will do the same as you did in Italy. You will act as if you are just finding out that you have the Sight and are a Shadowhunter. There is a girl there that will be able to empathize with that."
"Okay." I say, because he is giving me that look that he gives when he's tired of questions. Without any further information, he opens up a door to a crowded street. I jump through, thinking of how I didn't get to say goodbye to Michael.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The street I land on is so crowded with people, it sounds like a bee hive, buzzing with the noises of chatter. When I turn around, I see a girl with long raven-black hair walking toward a restaurant called Takis. I feel the pull that tells me I am supposed to be following her, so I do.When I follow her inside, she immediately goes to a table with two other people sitting at it. One is a blonde boy with golden eyes. The other is a red-head with green eyes. The boy has his arm around the girls neck and she's leaning into him as if her life depends on it. Its hard to miss that they're dating.
I see that there is a table open diagonal from theirs, so I go sit at it. A faerie girl comes to take order. I stare at the menu for a while, not knowing what to make of it. Deer blood? Seaweed salad?
"Human food's on the back, hun."
I smile my thanks at her and end up ordering a burger. When she walks away from my table, she goes directly over to the table that the raven-haired girl sat at. They all say "The usual" making me assume that they come here often. Luckily, I catch enough of their conversation to get their names.
"I don't know guys. I just miss him." The girl with the black hair is saying.
"It'll be fine, Izzy. Before you know it, Simon will be back and fighting demons along with us." Said the red-head.
"Clary's right, Isabelle. You need to stop being so dramatic. It's bad for your complexion." The blonde said with a smirk.
"Its not funny, Jace. He's my boyfriend. I should be there when he remembers things" Isabelle says
"I wonder if he'll ever remember turning into a-"
The waitress interrupts the boy, Jace with the deliverance of my burger.
"Here you go ma'am. I hope you enjoy."
By the time I tune back into their conversation, they're on another topic.
"Alec wants us to go to the party tomorrow night" Isabelle is saying.
"I don't see a problem with that. Jace and I will meet you there, how about that?" Clary says
Jace smiles and I notice that one of his teeth is chipped. "As long as Alec doesn't get drunk again. Last time, he started rolling all over the ground saying 'I see blue fire! Stop, drop and roll!'.
All of them laugh, and I laugh along with them. When they're done with their food, I follow them out, leaving some money on the table. I need to do this fast. Raziel doesn't know when this bad thing will happen, but I want to get to know them better before it does.
