As soon as he wakes up on Friday, Harvey texts Sky. How are you feeling today? Better? Am I going to see your face? :D
Sky doesn't reply to him. Not that he cares or checks.
But their message window looks like a conversation between him and a wall. He's a little sad, but at least he knows Sky is reading them and hopefully, he'll see her in class today.
Before Medical Instrumentation, Harvey drops by the student lounge. Her desk is empty—perfect. He rummages through his bag and sets the water bottle down on the table, alongside a wrapped sandwich from Subway. Stealing a post-it note from her drawer, he grabs a Sharpie and writes: This water is LUKEwarm. :) Hydrate yourself! :) Yours, Harvey
And Harvey knows she got it when she finally sends him a message. The notification makes Harvey fall down his chair out of pure shock. Got the water and food. Thanks.
Harvey's cheeks hurt from smiling. :D Are you going to lecture today?
He puts a hand to his heart while he waits for her reply.
Yeah. Don't fall asleep.
Harvey fist-bumps the air. I never do. :)
Sky doesn't respond.
Harvey skips to class, happy and excited. Sky comes in a few minutes after him, and Harvey sucks in a deep breath. Sky doesn't always dress up, but when she does...God. She's in a plain white turtleneck and skinny jeans and heels, and her hair is curled in perfect waves and her makeup is...wow.
Harvey can't stop staring at her.
Sky smiles at the class and begins her lecture.
And Harvey...well, Harvey came to class prepared.
Because the book is interesting and he read the book, he knows shit. He knows every single answer to Sky's question and his hand is in the air before she can even finish it.
Harvey never raises his hand in class and Sky knows this, so she calls on him the first and second time.
On the third, Sky's jaw twitches with a muscle and she ignores him. "Anyone else?"
Harvey keeps his hand up. No one raises theirs.
Sky's eyebrow shoots up. "No one else read the chapter today?"
The class grumbles incoherently. Sky takes a deep breath and calls on Harvey again.
He grins and states the answer.
Sky doesn't ask another question for the rest of the lecture. As soon as it ends, she hands out their quiz sheets back from last meeting. As always, Harvey stays in his seat and waits until he's the last person in the room before going up to her.
Sky looks at him dead in the eye. "What are you trying to do?"
How he manages to piss her off every time they're together, Harvey doesn't know. "Trying to impress you by showing you I finished the whole book," he answers nonchalantly. "I loved the chapter on Warrior Women: The Archaeology of Amazons, the whole section on Egypt, and chapter fifteen: Women's Power and Work in Ancient Urkesh."
Sky stares at him. "You're shitting me. Did you—did you really—"
"I read the whole thing." He sits on the desk and smiles at her.
For once, Sky doesn't know what to say.
It feels powerful and strange for her to be so speechless. Harvey grins and tips his chin at the paper in her hands. "How'd I do on the quiz?"
Sky shoves his paper to his chest.
Startled by the aggressiveness of the action, Harvey glances at it. Another ten. Cool. He looks at Sky again and curiously, he asks, "Why are you so annoyed that I'm actually smart?"
He doesn't expect an answer. What he expects is Sky grabbing her things and turning around without a word.
But she exclaims, "Because you're that one kid in class that knows the answers to everything but you just sleep and I know it's because of your job but it still annoys me, and today you just knew everything and you said you finished the book I helped write on women, women in antiquity, and your voice just irritates me, and every time you hand in your exam paper with perfect fucking scores, I just get this urge to punch you in the face and kiss you senseless, you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder!"
Harvey blinks. "I'm sorry, what?"
What?
His mind doesn't process anything. Sky grabs the collar of his shirt and kisses him.
What the fuck is going on—
He's so shocked and frozen that he doesn't register what the fuck is happening and then Sky is pulling back, confusion all over her eyes and face and—
"Don't tell anyone I kissed you," she mutters, swallowing hard. She's still holding his shirt.
It's a little late, but Harvey's brain finally catches up. "I won't if you do it again."
Sky doesn't even think about it. She slips her hand around the nape of his neck and pulls him to her, and Harvey goes, curling his arms around her pretty little waist, pressing his mouth harder on hers, gripping her skin and her hands fly to his hair, pulling the strands, and God—
Sky pushes him back. It's strong enough to put some distance between them, but Harvey wants more, more—
"I have to go," Sky mutters, quickly grabbing her bag.
"Wait, Sky." Harvey snatches her wrist, but Sky yanks it back as soon as they touch and leaves the classroom in a rush.
Harvey takes a deep breath. His mouth is tingling.
When he can finally muster the strength to move, he takes his bag and heads to Abe's.
They're all playing a game against each other when he walks in and lands face first on the sofa.
"What happened to you?" his friend finally asks, not taking his eyes off the screen.
Harvey closes his eyes. "I promised I wouldn't tell."
They pester him about his vague response, but Harvey stays true to his word.
He doesn't tell anyone.
