*KNOCK KNOCK*
The red and tired eyes of the sixteen year old boy open slowly. Remnants of the tears he cried the night before, linger in the corners of his eyes. Luke's words really shouldn't affect him this much.... But they do. Every time.
Before he can even fully wake up, his mother enters the room and opens his closet: Picking his outfit for the day. A habit she hasn't been able to shake, as she still sees her son as the little toddler she had to raise on her own. Manny doesn't mind. And if he doesn't like her pick he'll just pick something out himself.
"It's time to get up me amor. School starts in two weeks so you've got to get used to getting up earlier" Gloria says to the closet as she picks out her suggestion.
"Manny?" "Yeah sorry, I'm up" Manny's broken voice speaks. Gloria can immediately detect the sadness in her son's words. She turns and her suspicion is confirmed. "Manny what did you cry about?" asks worriedly. Manny confused by the question turns his head to his mirror.
Damn... He cried a lot.
"It's nothing Mom... I guess I had a bad dream or something.Gloria's worry quickly fades as she reminds herself of how (over)sensitive her son can be.
...
This is just what I needed. Manny thinks as he sips down another gulp of freshly brewed Colombian coffee.
Manny checks his phone, quickly being reminded of his conversation from last night, the one he had almost forgotten. 4 text messages from Luke sent at 4:23 am. He wasn't going to read them. Luke really went to far this time. It's time to start seeing him as just his annoying 'cousin' and not his friend.
Jay passes Manny, a brown bag full of golf clubs hanging over his shoulder. "Mornin' Manny" "Oh hey Morning Jay" Manny greets back as he is pulled out his thoughts. "You going golfing?". Jay chuckles.
"Why, I had no idea I was living with Sherlock Holmes" Jay responds teasingly as he walks out the front door. "oh and before I forget..." Jay calls back "I ordered something online and it should arrive somewhere between now and twelve could you make sure you're here when it arrives."
"Oh yeah... sure thing Jay"
"thanks kid... Oh and by the way, next time you want some booze, Just ask me. You're old enough to have a drink once in a while"
"Wow, Thanks Jay!" Manny cheers at this surprising comment "I'm not sure if Mom's gonna be okay with it though..."
"We don't tell your mother" Jay smirks. Manny grins back and Jay leaves out the door."Luke, what are you doing here?" Manny's hears Jay saying from outside.
You've got to be kidding me. What the hell is he doing here?Manny quickly sprints outside. Luke is standing there with Manny's swim trunks in his hands, his eyes looking worried at Manny's frowned face. "I ehh, I came to give Manny his swim suit back."
"Alright, well, you guys have fun, I have go show a Chinaman how to play golf." says as he swings his golf bag in the back of his red convertible.
"Jay, You can't say that!" Jay sighs. "Oriental whatever".Manny shakes his head and Luke giggles. Unbelievable. "
Hey, after the discount I gave this guy, I get to call him whatever I want". Jay steps in the car and starts the engine. "alright. Manny don't forget about the package being delivered today and don't make me see you two sharing a bath ever again" Jay Laughs loudly at his own remark and drives away.
Luke awkwardly grins. "So ehm" He begins. But Manny snatches the swim suit from his hands and heads for the front door before he can finish his thought. "Manny wait!"
"goodbye Luke!" Manny attempts to close the door, but Luke has stuck his foot between the doorway.
"Manny, can we please talk for a minute" Manny doesn't respond but knows that his 'nephew' has already convinced him.
