The day of my best mates wedding my entire life changed. I am currently trying to decide if it changed for the better or for the worse. I thought I knew all of Laura's friends but sitting at Liam and Laura's wedding I met a friend that changed everything. She had this wonderment about her that made me really like her and want to get to know her.
~Flash Back~
Mare sat next to me as part of the extended bridal party, I could tell she was nervous so I tried to get her to relax. "Um Mary right?" I asked.
"Well technically yes Mary but my friends call me Mare." She said looking at her hands.
"So you went to college with Laura?"
"Yes she is one of my best friends. When she moved I was heart broken it is all that jerk faces fault." She grumbled.
"Do you two still talk?"
"We text all the time and facetime once or twice a month to catch up."
"So tell me about yourself." I said trying to make her comfortable being in a room of people she doesn't know.
"I am from Philadelphia and I am a preschool teacher but I think I want to move or change jobs I'm not sure yet. Seeing my best friend move made me think maybe it is time I do the same." She said looking at me with big nervous blue eyes.
"You have to do what is right for you. I'm sure if you wanted to come out here Laura would help you."
"I know she has offered it multiple times it is just a big step. Ya know leaving my family behind."
"Once again you have to do what is right for you."
"Oh I know Laura gives me that pep talk all the time she hates how my family and friends at home walk all over me and treat me horribly."
"Laura is a great person to help you get out of a bad situation."
"Maybe." She sighed. I could tell how upset she was and I wanted to be the person that helped her.
Meeting Mare was over a year ago she stuck around for a little while and we got to know each other I would hang out with Mare as much as possible. Then one morning Laura called me upset that Mare left. She had just been talking to me about how she wanted to just stay in London where her best friend was and not go back home. She was looking for a job so she could stay. Laura was helping her out by helping cover her hotel room that she was staying in. I always offered for her to stay at my house I had plenty of room but she didn't want to over stay her welcome. The night before Mare left we were out for dinner and I wanted to take her to this play in London I thought she would love. I knew I had feelings for her and I was trying to prove to her how much I really like her. She was sitting next to me watching the play and smiling, every once in a while she would look at me smile. During the intermission she looked at me and whispered, "Are you going to watch the play or my face the entire time?"
"I've already seen it but you make the best faces when you are enjoying something. So I get a great amount of joy watching you be extremely happy."
"Oh Harry stop." She laughed.
"Nope." I laughed and gently touched her hand. I never made a move on Mare but I couldn't help myself. She looked at where our hands touched and blushed bright red. I smiled and moved my hand to gently cup her cheek so she was looking at me. She looked slightly confused and scared when I moved to gently place my lips on top of hers. She smiled when we pulled away from each other. I could tell she was nervous but I really wanted things to move forward with her.
That next morning when Laura called me upset that her best friend flew back home with no reason other then she had to go. I knew why she left I scared her with the kiss. It was my fault that Laura was now upset and that her best friend fled the country. I knew I had to do something to try and bring her back. I had to go and find Mare and bring her back into the fold of our group where she belonged. I got the next flight to Philadelphia and went on a search to find the girl of my dreams. I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I showed up on her front porch. It took me a couple tries to actually work up the nerve to ring the doorbell. When I did and the front door flew open there she was with bags under her eyes and what looked like tears running down her cheek. "Harry?" she whispered looking at me confused.
"Yeah Mare you just left. I was worried. Laura called crying saying you didn't give her a reason as to why you left."
"I know it all just became to much ya know Laur and Liam were paying for my hotel room even while on their honeymoon. I couldn't be that person anymore."
"Mare stop it." I growled.
"Stop what Harry? Telling the truth? I was mooching off of my best friend and her new husband so I could try and figure out my life. It wasn't fair Harry!" she said yelling towards the end. When she started shaking I pulled her into my body and just held her there while she cried.
"Tell me the truth Mare why did you leave? Was it because I kissed you?"
"Yes and no. You kissed me and I got scared but I also got a phone call from my sister saying how rude it was of me to just up and leave and never come back."
"So you listened to her? Instead of talking to me or Laura you listened to your sister who wants you to raise her child instead of finding you own life?"
"When you put it like that it sounds bad." She whispered.
"Well it is bad Mary." I said saying her real name making her look at me.
"It really isn't Harold so stop." She said trying to get out of my grip.
"So that kiss between us meant nothing huh?"
"It was just a kiss Harry go back to London." She whispered trying not to cry.
"Is that what you want? I mean nothing to you?" I whispered.
"Yes... No.... Please Harry I am so confused." She said trying not to cry.
"Just tell me this."
"What?" she asked looking into my eyes.
"Do you feel anything towards me? Anything at all?"
"No." she said and pulled away to walk into her house without looking back.
