  TREY's POV

I watched her from the minute I entered the lunch room, sitting at that rinky dink table in the back, alone. I've barely been paying attention to Jarell and Omari's dumb asses going on and on about whatever they were talking about.

"ay man" Omari snapped at me, causing me to lose my concentration on her.

"what?"

"what the hell are you thinking about?" Jarell asked.

"I'll be back" I said as I got up form the table not really in the mood to talk to them and went cautiously over to Skylar, being careful not to draw attention to myself.

"can I sit with you?" I asked her although she wasn't facing me.

"I don't care. Last I checked it was a free country."

I sat next to her and she looked at me.

"what do you want from me?" she asked.

I sighed and looked at the table, then back at her. "you" I stated clearly.

"beg your pardon" she said pushing her lunch away from her and turning towards me.

"I want you to be my girl."

She stared at me for a long time before picking up all of her stuff and walking out of the cafeteria doors, fuming.

What did I do?

I got up and rushed after her, which wasn't easy to do because of the long strides she was taking. She made her way out of the front doors of the school and I followed her.

"what did I do?" I asked once I was right next to her.

"I don't know, you tell me" she ran her hand angrily through her hair and sighed frustrated. Her eyes were now an off colored brown instead of the hazel or green I'm used to. "why?" she asked before letting me say anything.

"why what?" I asked completely confused.

"why do you want to be with me?" I watched her shift her weight to one hip. "who put you up to this? My bother? What type of sick joke is this?"

Skylar, this isn't a joke. I really do wanna be with you." I put my hands in my pockets and stared at her.

"well sounds like bullshit."

That felt like a big slap in the face, but she just isn't getting it.

"does this look like I'm kidding? I'm risking my reputation just to talk to you right now. I've liked you since I first saw you in ninth grade but I couldn't talk to you because I wanted to be cool."

She opened her door then looked at me. "you know what Trey? Be fucking cool and leave me the hell alone!" she tried to get into her car but I held the door so she couldn't close it.
"wait Sky!"

"my name is Skylar, only my friends call me Sky."

"I am your friend. I'd love to be more than that. I really like you." I was starting to sound ridiculous. She has me almost begging to be with her and I don't beg.

"really? Well I refuse to be one of your one month hoes."

"you wouldn't be."I assured.

"yeah right" she mumbled, clearly pissed for some reason.

This is all confusing me. First we're friends and everything is cool. We talk all the time and hang out and chill and stuff. Hell, I even write this girl a poem and say it in front of the class, yet she's acting like I did something to her.

I finally let go of her door but she didn't close it. "look, I really do like you, and you have every right to have your guard up, but just think about it. I've never been the one to torture you. I may be going out on a rickety bridge trying to be with you, but I'm ready to cross this bridge and connect to the other side. This separation crap in this school is just all bad and we can be the ones to change it." I smiled at her as she just stared at me. "I'm finally mature enough to take this step. Take it with me Skylar. Let's make a difference."

I took a deep breath as she closed her door and started her car. I stepped away from her car and she drove away without another single word.
