Ria woke up around two o'clock in the afternoon. They'd fallen into bed just after six that morning, deciding that they'd sleep over in May's bed. Ria's room was still impersonal in its original guest room state so May had offered her the right hand side of her bed. May was still asleep, she'd forgotten to take her makeup off the night before and her eye liner had smudged. Her previously perfectly curled hair was now a tangled mess of loose curls on her pillow.
Ria forced her body out of the bed and went into the ensuite bathroom. Her reflection looking back at her was her usual look, tired face and dark messy hair.
The bathroom was large with dark moody tiles and copper finishes. There were large mirrors everywhere and an array of makeup sitting on a desk with a mirror on it and a chair positioned in front of it.
After doing her business she decided to go wander around the apartment. Outside the main bedroom was a small balcony that led down some small steps to another hallway. Down the hallway was three other bedrooms and a small cupboard that when opened fully revealed a washing machine, clothes dryer and closet steamer.
At the end of the hall there's even more stairs that led back down to the first level. The open living and dining room held large grey plush furniture. Ria sat on the lounge and realised how big it is in comparison to her. Their were two L shaped lounges and from where Ria sat she could see the entrance, television and the kitchen.
Ria could not believe how lucky she had gotten. Her years of hard work to prove to May that she could take her education seriously and stay focused had paid off.
Picking herself up she made her way back to the master bedroom. The only place she hadn't adventured into was the door to the left of the ensuite. She opened it slowly revealing a massive closet. One wall lined completely with heels, mirrors on every available surface and a plush stool with a blanket draped over it. Two garmet bags were hanging on the allocated hooks near the shoes. A handful of shoe boxes stacked beneath them.
Each black bag had a small white tag stating who the item was for, the estimated value including a list of the contents brands and a reciept for their dry cleaning. Zipping open the one with her name on it she's met with the dress May had previously described. It was perfect for the event, carrying on with Miu Miu's sort of style and everything.
She sat down on the ground in front of the shoe boxes. Crossing her legs she read over the label not missing D & G written in large letters on the lid and side.
'Admiring the art?' May asked from her spot leaning against the door frame. She was wearing her grey bathrobe over her pajamas.
Ria jumped, she didn't expect May to be awake. May stepped into the closet and sat down on the stool. 'Sorry to scare you, but I had to put an alarm on so we were ready to go on time' she explained. 'But first do you want throw on some clothes and we can go get food? I'm starving and fashion shows are like first dates. You eat heaps before you go so you don't have to eat like a pig when you're there.' May laughed.
Ria nodded whilst May walked over to the draws in the closet. She pulled out a gray mid length sweater dress and slipped on a pair of chunky grunge boot heels. Moving along to another draw she pulled out a pair of leather trousers and a maroon high neck ribbed tank. For over the top she snatches a faux fur jacket and for shoes are a lower pair of chunky heels with buckles on the sides.
'Here, these will look awesome with your dark hair' May smiles and passes the second outfit to her sister.
Sitting down in front of the cosmetic mirror May begins her routine by reaching for the moisturiser. A few swipes of mascara later, some brow pencil and matte lip stain, she's ready to walk out the door.
Before her current position as editor, May never really wore much makeup but now she never leaves the house without mascara. Random photos of her have been known to pop up randomly on the internet so now she never leaves unprepared. Her basic routine this morning felt almost too easy but she knows that she'll be re-doing it for the show later, so leaving it as blank as possibly seemed the best option.
Grabbing the mascara tube and a darker lip tint May moves to sit in front of Ria. They sit silently as May applies the makeup to Ria's face, a comfortable atmosphere surrounds them.
'There, now you're paparazzi ready' May smiles before getting up and grabbing a handbag for the adventures, choosing a plain black Hermes bag and stuffing her purse, keys and phone from her bedside table inside.
'Let's kick this popsicle stand' May says as she shrugs on her Yves Saint Laurent classic leather jacket. She leads Ria out the door, clicks the lock and they head to the garage for the car while May makes her hair stay put in a messy top knot.
Ria is happy with her appearance. It's different to her usual plain jeans and t shirts but she doesn't feel uncomfortable one bit.
They get in the black car and Ria immediately plays with the radio until she finds a good station. May notices the little similare antics they each hold and a smile takes over her face.
'I love your jacket, where is it from?' Ria asks May as they pull up to some traffic lights.
'It was actually my first ever branded purchase. It's YSL and I got it when I was in year 11. I was with Stephen at the time, do you remember me mentioning him? He's the one the parents absolutely despised. They completely flipped out on me, remember?' She answered
'No! Where was I? Did he ever get introduced to me? Why did they flip out?' Ria was confused not to mention intrigued.
'We'll discuss him over breakfast, along with the other men in our lives ok?' May sighed
