She wanted to stop thinking about it. It was the past and it was over. Done is done. Past can't be changed. Her family is still mad at her since she didn't tell them about what he did, and the alcohol problem. They understand why she did it though. It was self-defence. She didn't have a choice. She started to think if she had another choice, if she could do something different. Maybe she didn't have to kill him. Maybe she could have left without him noticing. If she could, everything would be different.

Two years ago

After he came back and Sophie had stopped panicking about him leaving to go to a bar, they left to go to her mother's birthday party. Sophie was hoping that he would make a scene there, but knowing him and what he could do, she didn't want to hope for too much. It was an hour drive to get to her mother's place and the car ride was quiet. No one of them was talking, not even the radio was on to play some enlightening music to help the silent between them. Sophie could feel the tension between them and she wanted to break it so badly, but she didn't know how to. How to do it without making him mad or make the tension between them even worse.
-------------------------------------------------------

Finally they were there. The tension could maybe go away now that they were with her family and her mother's friends. She would be safe for a little while at least. She couldn't have been more wrong.

While she was talking with her mother, she could feel him looking at her from the other side of the yard. Starring at her, judging her, for what she did back at the apartment. She knew she would get it when she got back, but today she would fight back. He would regret taking up a fight with her today. She was not the same girl that he starred dating. She wasn't that innocent little girl, who couldn't defend herself anymore. She didn't need him to protect her, she could protect herself and she knew she had to start by getting rid of him. He needed to disappear out of her life. That would be the start of her new life as an independent woman. A whole new life, not needing a man to protect her and she knew it had to happen today, or else she would chicken out and stay with him forever. The thought of staying with him forever, was scaring her. How would it be if they one day got kids? How would he treat them? How would they react to their own father beating up their own mother, and she did nothing to stop him from doing so? Not stopping him in beating them? What life would that be? What kind of life is that to live? A life in fear of their own father, and never trusting their own mother? No, she would never let anyone hurt her kids, not even someone she thought she loved. She would do anything to protect them from harm as long as she could. Even if that lead on to her getting herself hurt.

  -------------------------------------------------------

The party came to an end and everyone had to go home, but this is what Sophie was most scared of. Him and her alone in the apartment again. Even though she had a plan to get out of there, he might have some things to say about that. They would not be pretty nor would they be any less painful then they had been. The car ride was silent once again and as closer as the got to the house, Sophie got more and more nervous. This is it. This is my last time looking at this house as my own. I have to get out of here now. If I don't leave now, I'll stay here forever. All this went through Sophie's head while he parked the car outside the house. Once the car stopped, he was fast out of the car and took long steps up to the house and locked himself in. Sophie breathed in and out some times and opened the car door. She took small steps up to the house and once she was in the hallway, she closed the door quietly. Took off her heels and held them in her hand. She stopped and tried to listen to where he was. She heard him in the kitchen and took her chance to get upstairs without him noticing her. Sophie got upstairs without the stairs creaking. Opened the door to the bedroom and found her bags. She packed up everything she needed and was ready to go, but she had to go after he fell asleep or else he would ask her questions and threaten her. Sophie hid her bags and changed into a white shirt and some jeans. She was done wearing the dress. She heard him yell at her to come downstairs and she obeyed like she always does. He was standing in the middle of the living room. "I saw the way you looked at them! DON'T YOU THINK I SEE WHAT YOU ARE THINKING?! EVERYTIME WE GO OUT YOU ARE ALWAYS LOOKING AT OTHER GUYS LIKE I DON'T EXIST ANYMORE!" His voice got louder and louder as he spoke and he got closer and closer to her. Sophie backed up until her back hit the wall. He was there, right up in her face when he said: "you should get punished for what you did." He grabbed her wrist tightly and pined them above her head. She tried to get out of his grip, but failed multiple times. She kicked him in his private parts and ran straight for the kitchen. He fell to the floor, but was fast on her heels. Once she got to the kitchen she grabbed the first thing in sight and it happen to be a knife. She got lucky and once she got a tight grip on it, he was there behind her. He didn't see that she got a hold of the knife so when he turned her around the knife went straight into his chest. He fell backwards, but since he had a grip on her she fell on top of him, pushing the knife even further into his chest. He screamed and started to cough. Blood came out of his mouth and more came out of his chest. Sophie got loose from his grip and backed up into the corner. She started crying and shiver. He got her phone out and called the police. "911, what's your emergency?"  "I killed him, he's dead"

Hope you liked the plot twist, kind of. Sorry that it took so long for me to finish this chapter, but I had writers block over and over how to write this. Hope you stay tuned for the next one. It will come faster then this one, I promise.
