I walk into the office and I'm instantly greeted by a woman wrapping her arms around me
"Oh my god Nicole. I'm so happy to see you. You've gotten so big, wow this is crazy" ???????Nicole???????
I pulled away from the hug and stuck out my hand for the stranger to sake
"Hi. I'm Shannon."
The lady whom I presume to be my "mom" looks confused for a second but then puts on a brave face and shakes my hand, then the room is silent.
"So Shannon, this is Debbie. Your birth mo-"
"Don't say that" Debbie cut in "don't say birth mother, that sounds like she has another mother and I'm sorry Nic- Shannon. you don't. That lady is your kidnapper. I'm your mom and your only mom."
Im taken aback by her outburst, i usually do well with handling anger but I could feel myself beginning to snap , and then I did.
"Okay hold up. You may be my birth mother but Katherine did raise me. She was my mom for 12 years. She's the ONLY mom I've ever known. So before you start bashing her you should get to know me, the child she raised. I'm actually a pretty upstanding citizen." I roll my eyes. It has just occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen after today so I look at the detective "so what does this mean? I have to go with them? Where do they even live?"
Debbie was about to speak when detective pierce cut her off
"Okay well we're gonna have to take Katherine to jail. I'm sorry. And then you're going to go to your house and pack up and were driving you the the beveridge house in Pittsburgh. Where you will love out the remainder of your adolescent life and the after that, the choice is yours kiddo. Now come on let's go get you packed , I'm sure you've got some friends to say bye to before we head off"
