In the confusion of being ushered back to the Gates Dormitory, Henri was glad he lived across the hall from Michael. They stayed shoulder to shoulder the entire walk there with Andrea and the others closely following.
"Michael, are you hearing anything?" asked Adali as they were shuffled into Gates by the monitors.
"No," said Michael. "There is too much going on, I can't make sense of everyone's thoughts at once like this."
Adali and Xenia were separated from them as they were filed up the stairs to the girl's wing. Bastian and Dmitri lived on the second floor, so they were the next to go. Finally, Henri was shoved into his room with Andrea and had to say goodbye to Michael.
I'm right here, came Michael's voice, and Henri smiled. He sat on his bed while Andrea paced the room anxiously.
"This might sound like an odd question," Henri began, addressing both Michael and Andrea, "But are murders common at Tudor Rose? Somehow, it doesn't seem surprising that this happened."
"The fuck if I know," said Andrea.
There has never been anything like what their saying, said Michael, though Henri had no idea what anyone was saying. The burst open and the head of a prefect popped in to make sure they were sitting in their room.
What happened? Henri wondered.
Michael gave him an image that must have come from Professor Borgia's own head as it was cloudy and broken. However, Henri could clearly see the mangled corpse of a dead girl. He could not help but feel like he recognized her somehow. This girl was drained by a vampire during the game, said Michael.
What? Henry thought. So there are witnesses?
No, unfortunately if there were any witnesses their minds could have easily been tampered with. It must have happened when the Professor stopped me from injuring Prince Leopold.
Michael was silent for a while when Henri contemplated everything. The light of the sun was shining brightly through the window. Henri had learned that during the height of day, a pureblood's special powers were virtually useless, and significantly weaker while the sun was up. This meant that soon Michael's mental connection with him would begin to weaken and he would be alone again.
You'll never be alone, came Michael's soothing deep voice. Henri smiled to himself, hiding his face from Andrea. Henri, at noon we are leaving the academy. I won't be able to hear your thoughts then, but you'll need to be ready.
Henri sat up. Where are we going?
The less you know right now, the better. I had already made arrangements to leave campus because we were put on lock down, and this severely interferes with my plans... But with a murderer at Tudor Rose, there is all the more reason to take you away from here.
Henri got out of bed and looked at the clock. It was only eight in the morning, and he wondered how long this would last. To vampires, time was nothing, so he was sure the Headmistress would feel no qualms about leaving them locked in their rooms for an extended period of time. He changed out of his uniform into the day clothes he had brought from France.
At ten a blood donor was brought to every room bearing a tray of enough food for two humans. Andrea and Henri accepted the tray of food and dismissed the donor, who was escorted away by a monitor.
