The car pulled to a stop and I tugged out my earbuds. I sighed before glancing at my dad, mentally praying that he would start laughing at me and yelling 'April fools!' Or something like that. But it wasn't April, September actually, and the look he gave me told me it was time to be serious.
"I know you aren't happy with this-" he started.
"Happy?" I laughed sarcastically. "I am completely 100% pissed with this situation. I'll pull my crap together and put on a show like I do with everything else, but don't expect me to be all happy go lucky about this when it is just you and me."
"We were going to be moving to this area sooner or later. This just made it sooner than later."
"But why did you have to fall in love with his mom?"
"Leila," my dad sighed. He was about to start one of his speeches again.
"Let's get this over with," I spat before climbing out of the car and slamming the door behind me.
I stormed up to the house and was about to ring the doorbell when it hit me. This is the house that I'll be in for the rest of high school. A year and a half. Oh god, this better go quick.
I timidly rang the doorbell and waited. Dad was standing behind me. I could feel his eyes on my back. Oh I was going to get it later.
The door opened to reveal a smiling woman. Immediately I see why she caught my dads eye. Dark brown hair, light blue eyes, and practically radiates confidence and happiness.
"David!" She smiled before embracing my father in a tight hug. " I don't know f you remember me, but I'm Meg."
"Jacksyn," I replied smoothly. I always went by my middle name. Leila was way too... Girly. It just made me think of the color pink and I hate all things pink.
"It's nice to meet you. Would you like a tour of the house?" She said to my dad more than to me. She turned to me. "There are two extra bedrooms upstairs, you can pick whichever one you want to stay in. Levi is probably downstairs."
I nodded before heading in the house. I couldn't help but stop and stare. Damn this place is huge. I guess that's what happens when you have decent money and live out in the middle of nowhere.
The stairs were easy enough to find, given that they were wide enough for three people to walk up comfortably.
The two bedrooms were connected by a bathroom. Another bedroom, which I guessed to be Levi's, was also connected to the bathroom. I chose the room that was as far from his as I could get.
I dragged my bags into the room and sat on the bed.
"I really don't want to unpack this crap." I sighed. Knowing my dad, his company would transfer him to the next city over before we could get fully settled.
I decided to wander around the house, looking for any room that I knew I would be spending time in.
It turns out that I have absolutely no sense of direction. In less than five minutes, I was lost in the house. A set of stairs going down was to my right. Maybe I had found the mysterious basement.
The sound of a tv slowly filled my ears. I followed the noise to a room. It was a video game nerd's paradise. Stacks and stacks of games lined the walls. A brand new computer sat in one corner, music playing out of it. A big ass tv sat in the other. Levi sat in front of the tv with a controller in his hands. He was clearly too engrossed in his game to notice that someone was standing ten feet behind him.
I couldn't blame him though. It was a good game, Assassin's Creed III. The best Assassins Creed game in my opinion.
I watched him play for a few minutes, he was trying and failing to free captured native Americans. Every time he made it to the boat, he was discovered.
"Damnit!" He finally yelled, slamming the controller on the ground after ten minutes of trying to free the people on the boat. "I give up. This game is rigged."
"Pull the guy over the boat," I laughed. "And, I promise you, the game is not rigged. I've completely beaten it twice."
His head whipped around at the sound of my voice.
"When did you get here? And who are you?" He stuttered, surprised.
"Jacksyn. Been here for an hour at least. Could you tell me how to get to the kitchen?"
He said nothing, just stared at me in astonishment.
"Ok," I said sarcastically. "Thanks for the directions."
And with that I left the room. Leaving my best first impression yet.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Jacksyn?" A soft voice whispered as it knocked on the bedroom door.
"Come in?" I asked. I definitely was not used to that. Dad usually just came and went as he pleased.
The door opened and Meg's head peeked in.
"There's dinner if you're hungry," she said with a small smile. "And if you need anything else, just ask me."
"Thanks," I returned her smile and sat up. My stomach growled in agreement.
The smell of pizza hit me long before I could see it. My mouth was watering by the time I found the kitchen.
I was the last to the kitchen. With pizza on a paper plate, I made my way to the table. Taking the only empty seat, next to Levi. Dad and Meg both gave me a small smile before returning to their pizza, Levi glared at me then went back to staring at his phone. I waited for the silence to be broken.
Meg was the first to speak.
"As you both know, we have been together for a while and are getting married. But we decided to tell you now that we will be having the wedding at a resort in Mexico!"
A real smile broke out on my face. I love the beach. Once I get in the water you have to drag me out if you want to leave.
"This is going to be great," I said still smiling while trying to keep any hints of sarcasm out of my voice.
As much as I didn't want my dad to get married, Meg had made a pretty good impression on me so far. Better than anyone else ever has.
Dinner didn't last much longer than that, mostly because of Levi storming off without a word when we were halfway through our pizzas.
I lay on my bed, trying to decide whether or not to take a shower in the morning. Scrolling through Instagram was the only thing keeping me from making a decision.
I turned to make sure that my doors were closed before going into ultimate stalker mode.
"Let's see what little Levi is doing on Instagram." I couldn't stop the evil smile that grew on my face.
I searched his name and clicked on the first account that popped up. 25k followers. The number dropped drastically from when I searched him up two weeks ago.
The first picture was one of the assassins creed games.
'Finally got to Assassin's Creed III. So pumped to start playing. #ACIII #ps3'
His comment was followed by the usual 'I love you's and 'you're sooooo hot' that all guys that were famous got. But the most recent comment caught my eye. It was Levi commenting on his own picture.
'Update: was just told by my soon to be stepsister how to play the game #embarrassing #gamerchick'
I couldn't help but laugh at the comment. I was definitely not a gamer but I was definitely into Assassins Creed.
I stole a glance at the clock. 8:30.
"I might as well go take a shower," I sighed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~So I don't exactly know what I'm doing with this but I can tell you that it will be pretty cliche.
But this is for @JesusAnselElgort for the kick to start writing again and the praise that I got along with it.
This is really all I can give you in return, but I hope you enjoy it.
