Everyday there he was. He always sat beside me on the bus always walked me to my classes, and he constantly talked.
I figured he would run out of words to say by the end of the first week but he didn't. On Friday he greeted me by asking "how are you doing today"like he did everyday. And like everyday I replied with "Good" and my most convincing smile.
He always had a smile on his face one that shone in his dark brown eyes. It was a contagious smile but yet I caught myself frowning more times than not.
"How are you always so happy all the time?" I asked him one day.

"Oh I'm not happy all the time."

"I've never seen you without a smile on your face."

"Well that's because I'm with you." He laughed. " No....I'm not happy all the time but I am thankful to God for my life and I am happy because I'm a Christian. So pretty much I'm happy because I have God in my life. When I was younger I had leukemia. I was sick all the time and I was so unhappy. When I found God for myself he saved me from death and all my suffering. He healed me. I just want everyone to know about God and to feel his love as I do."

"Oh..............I've never felt like that about God. In my experience God only wants to punish me. He's never saved me from pain,no matter how hard I've prayed.
The way I see it is if he is real he doesn't care about me."

The look he gave me almost seemed sad as if he pitied me. "Hanna I am so sorry you feel that way. I hope that someday I can show you that that is not true. He loves you and he doesn't want to see you suffer."

We sat in silence for a little while then he turned to me again. "Hanna will you come over to my house tonight....for supper?"

I looked at him in surprise. The way he asked me was strange all of a sudden he became so serious. Any trace of his usual smile was gone.

"Um..........I....I will have to check with Lisa first but I'm sure she won't mind."

His smile came back.
"Ok."
We got off the bus and started walking toward our lockers. Then he turned around. "Hana?"

"Yeah."

"Who's Lisa?"

"My foster mom."

Her foster mom.I thought as I walked to my locker at the other end of the hallway. What was that about?
I realized then I honestly didn't know that much about her. Most of our conversations were mainly me talking and her listening. At least I thought she was listening.
I made a mental note to ask her more about herself later.

I felt bad for her. What had made her feel that way about God. I couldn't imagine anything making me so.......disappointed in Him.
He was always there for me but I guess not everyone grew up hearing about him 24/7 like I did being a pastors kid.
"Hey Nick."I heard someone say behind me. I turned around to find Luke and Adam standing there.
"What's up." I said opening my locker and grabbing my Algebra book.

"We're Going out for pizza tonight with some of the other football players. Do you want to come?"Luke asked.

"Uh sure what ti....wait no I can't Hanna's coming over tonight."

The looked at each other with a silly grin on there faces. "Hanna huh?"Adam said. "Do you like her."
"Yeah."
They chuckled.
"What....no,no not like that. Like a friend.
She's coming over for supper. She having some problems I think. I want to help her."
"Okay. If that's what you say." Luke said still wearing that stupid grin on his face.

The bell rang and I rolled my eyes as I walked away from them.
I liked her as a friend, that was all.
