Everything went silent for a second then turned into utter chaos.
"SILENCE!" Dumbledore yells.
We are all escorted back to the Gryffindor common room.
"Guys..what about Hermione?" I ask them.
"Crap!" We all quickly run to the girls bathroom.
When we get into the bathroom, the troll is smashing the stalls.
"Hermione, move!" I call.
The boys start throwing stuff at the troll.
"Hey, pea brain!" Ron yells at the troll as he throws something at its head.
The troll turns around and his club swings and hits me and I drop to the ground and everything turns black.
                    ***
"Is she going to be okay?" I hear someone ask.
"Oh yes deary, just give her some time."
Okay, so the girl is Madam Pomfrey and I'm not quite sure who the other is.
"Now go back to class," Madam Pomfrey says.
After I hear the door close, I open my eyes and sit up.
"Oh dear, you're awake," Madam Pomfrey says.
"Why am I here?" I ask.
"You got knocked out by the troll."
"Cool," I reply.
"You're free to leave any time you'd like," she says.
I nod and immediately hop on my feet.
                ***
I make it back to the common room and am greeted by everyone.  As soon as I make it up to the dormitory, the first thing I hear from Hermione is how much work I've missed.
"Hermione, I was unconscious, I'm pretty sure they'll give me time to make up my work," I tell her.
She rolls her eyes, "if you fail, it's not my fault."
"You stress me out so much," I say and flop down on to my bed.

The next day, I'm free to go back to my classes, sadly.  I make my way down to Potions.
    "Walk faster, dweeb," Malfoy says.
"Why don't you shut up?" I ask.
"Do you hear something guys?" he asks Crabbe and Goyle.
"Oh, you're going to hear something when my fist is in your a-"
"Genevieve! That language is not lady-like," Hermione yells, "and he's definitely not worth it."
I roll my eyes and stick my tongue out at Draco.
"Mature," Hermione says.
"He's not mature," I tell her.
She nods in agreement, "I know."
After the day's over, I make my way down to the Great Hall and find a seat next to Fred and George.
"We heard you let Malfoy have it today," George says.
I shrug my shoulders, "I guess you could say that."
He laughs, "at least someone's not afraid to stand up to that git."
I grab some food and and start talking to Ron and Hermione about the homework Snape assigned.
"Why does he have to make everything so difficult?" Ron asks.
"Why do you have to complain about every little thing?" I retort.
He rolls his eyes.
"Hey Gen, look over there." I look at where Harry pointed and see Malfoy staring over at me.  I give him a look and he quickly looks away.
"I think he has a crush on you," Hermione states.
I let out a laugh, "yeah right."
        ***
The next couple of weeks, I try my best to get my homework done and turned in.  By the time Christmas comes around, everyone is frantic about what they're doing for the holidays.  I still don't know if I'm going home for Christmas.
"So what are you doing for Christmas?" Hermione asks.
I shrug my shoulders, "I'm not sure, my mom might be going to my grandparents' house, and I don't like them."
"Well the worst that could happen is you have to stay here for the holidays." she shrugs.
On my way to the library, I run into Malfoy.
"Watch where you're go--" he stops when he looks at me.
"I'm sorry," I apologize and go to walk away.
    "Are you okay?" he asks.
"Why do you care?" he smiles.
"Just trying to help out," he says.
"No, I'm not okay," I answer.
    "What's wrong?" he asks.
"Today's five years since my father died." I don't exactly know why I'm telling Malfoy all of this, but it feels so good to get it all off of my chest.
    "Oh, I'm sorry," he says.
He pulls me into a hug and I just stand there, awkwardly.  He pulls away.
"I'm sorry, but you just looked like you needed a hug."
"Thank you," I say as I walk away.  I make my way to the library and start looking for books on Nicholas Flamel.  I find all the books I can and start looking through them all.  Nothing shows up.
"Find anything?" I hear someone say.  I turn around and see Harry.
I shake my head 'no' and continue to look through the shelves of books.
"Not yet, maybe we should check the restricted section?" I suggest.
He shrugs his shoulders, "I don't know, maybe."
I look around for anything that has to do with good ol' Flamel but I fail to find anything.  I eventually give up and walk to the great hall, I sit down at the table and pull out the insane Potions homework Snape assigned.  A couple minutes later, Harry, Ron, and Hermione come walking in.  They sit down next to me and get started on theirs.  I hear the doors burst open and Neville comes hopping in.
"Oh my god, Neville, who did this?  Was it Malfoy?" I ask him.
He nods.
I hope out of my seat and grab my wand, I make my way out of the great hall and see Malfoy standing with his followers, laughing.  I walk up to him and point my wand directly at his throat.
"You're a real git, you know that?" I ask.  He doesn't say anything, he's too afraid.
"Good, don't say anything, but since you think you're so funny doing that to Neville, how 'bout I do it to you?"  I cast the spell and laugh as he tries to pull his legs apart.
I turn on my heel and walk back to the great hall.
"Not to worry Neville, I took care of it," I tell him.
"Genevieve, you didn't have to," he says.
I smile and hug him, "I'll always protect you."
I'm very protective of Neville because he's very fragile.  I feel bad that Malfoy and his minions always pick on him, he's such a sweet kid.
***
"What'd you do to Malfoy?" Ron asks.
"Just scared him a bit," I say.
"That's all you did?" Ron asks.
I nod, "you think I'd do anything more?"
He laughs, "uh, yeah."
I roll my eyes, "I also made sure he couldn't walk, but that's all I'm saying."
He chuckles and we walk to the Gryffindor common room.
"I can't believe you did that to Malfoy!" Hermione says.
I shrug, "I don't see what the big deal is, he deserved it."
"You need to start thinking!" she says.
I roll my eyes, "calm down, 'Mione."
"I will when you stop being stupid!" she yells.
I look at her in disbelief, "wow."
I turn away from her and walk out of the common room.  I wonder around the castle for a good bit before I find an abandoned classroom.  I open the door and walk in.  I sit down on the windowsill and look out at the night sky.  I snap my head up when I hear footsteps, it's Malfoy.
"What're you doing in here?" he asks.
I sigh, "why do you care?"
"Because believe it or not, I'm not a complete jerk." I laugh.
"Yeah because you act like an angel."
"I am an angel," he jokes.
I laugh again, "yeah okay."
He smiles, "so what're you doing here?"
"Hermione's being a total pain in the arse and I have no idea why," I explain.
"How's she being a pain?" he asks.
I quickly shove my hands in my pockets, "she called me stupid for jinxing you."
"Well at least she has some sense," he jokes.
I roll my eyes, "you deserved it."
"Yeah, you're right."  I look up at him shocked.
    "Did you just?" he nods.
He laughs at me for keeping my eyes wide.
"I didn't know you had a funny bone in your body," I say.
"I'm full of surprises." I chuckle.
    "That you are."
We stay in the abandoned room for another two hours just talking, and I have to admit, Malfoy isn't as big of a git as I thought.  He's actually, dare I say it, pretty funny.  It's late by the time I make it back to the common room, and the fat lady is sleeping.  Figures, this portrait is good for absolutely nothing.
    "Caput Draconus," I state.  Nothing.
I repeat myself, "caput draconus!" Again, nothing.
"For heaven's sake!" I yell, that wakes her up, "caput draconus!"
The portrait swings open and I make my way into the common room and up the steps to the girls' dormitory.  Once I make it into the dorm, I pull some pajamas out and quickly get dressed and head to bed.
***
I wake up the next day to constant chatter.  I open my eyes and see all the girls talking and laughing.  I roll my eyes and hop out of bed, putting on normal clothes.  I walk down to the great hall for some breakfast.  I sit down next to Fred and George because I am not going anywhere near Hermione right now.
"How're you liking it so far?" Fred asks.
    "Just great," I say.
"Are you alright, Gen?" George asks.
I shake my head, "a lot happened last night."
"We're here if you need to talk," they say.
I nod, "Hermione called me stupid last night."
    "Why?" George asks.
"Because I got payback on Malfoy for jinxing Neville," I answer.
"That's not stupid at all," Fred assures me.
"Thank you guys, don't know where I'd be without you," I tell them.
"We know!" they say in unison.
I smile and finish eating my breakfast.  When I'm done, I hop out of my seat and go over to where Ron and Harry are.
    "Hey guys," I say.
    "Hi Genevieve!" Ron says.
"What're you guys doing today?" I ask.
"Going down to Hagrid's, do you wanna come?" Harry asks.
"Is it just you two?" I ask.
    "Hermione's going too," Harry answers.
"I'll skip out, I'll go walk around or something," I tell them.
I walk out of the great hall and walk down the corridor until I'm outside.  I smile as the sun beats down on my face, what a nice day.  I find a spot under a tree and sit down.
"Is this seat taken?" I hear someone ask.  I look up and see Malfoy.
"Are you sure you wanna be seen with a half blood?" I ask.
He smiles and sits down next to me on the grass.
"It's a beautiful day out," he says.
I nod, "I wish the weather was like this all the time."
He smiles, "me too."
I lean back on the tree and look out at the grounds of Hogwarts.
"So why're being so nice to me?" I ask.
"Why're you being nice to me?" He asks.
"I asked you first," I reply.
"I asked you second," I say.
"I think you're beautiful," he says.
I look down as soon as he says that.
"Thank you.."
"You're welcome," he says lightly punching my knee.
"Shoot, it's going to be getting dark soon," I say hopping up.
"You coming?" I ask.
He shakes his head, "I'll see you in class tomorrow."
I nod and walk back to the castle.  I smile as I think of the conversation Malfoy and I had.  He thinks I'm beautiful...
