'Seriously, Mikey, you shouldn't smoke, it's really bad for you, I'm so disappointed, where did I go wrong?'
'You aren't my mother, remember?'
'Shut up...' Gerard resented his younger brother for making jokes about his parental nature towards Mikey. Mikey resented Gerard's parental nature towards him. 'You know you shouldn't smoke, it's so fucking bad for you.'
'You fucking smoke!'
'Ok, so A, don't swear at me, and B, I know I do, that's how I know it's bad for you.' Gerard glared at his brother before grabbing the cigarette from his hand and throwing it on the floor.
'Do I have to go to school?' Mikey asked his older brother in hope who didn't reposnd. Mikey looked at him, 'ugh, I know.'
'Damn, I didn't ask your friend why they looked so sad...make sure they're ok, ok?' Gerard looked at Mikey who simply nodded before defeatedly trudging up the stairs into the school building.
'I'll see you later,' Mikey called before mixing into a never ending crowd off people that made Gerard nervous as hell.
In his head Gerard was contemplating everything that could go wrong, anything that could be said and how many people he would end up coming into contact with and it exhausted him. Being in any way sociable exhausted Gerard, he wanted to be able to stay at home more than Mikey did but knew he had an opportunity that many people didn't get and he wasn't going to squander that or take it for granted.
'Gerard, hey,' Lindsey stood beside him at the bottom of the steps into the school. 'You ok?' Gerard didn't respond, he rarely did.
'Just walk up the steps, we'll go straight to class, promise,' she smiled comfortingly even though he couldn't see it before walking up the steps. Gerard anxiously followed.
Mikey didn't have the same problems that his brother did with regards people, actually he had very few of the same problems that Gerard had. Gerard struggled with social anxiety, depression and a few other things while Mikey only really struggled with Pete Wentz and his best friend and brother's mental stabilities.
'Hey, Mikey, whats up?' Someone waved as they walked past, Mikey smiled in return trying to find on of his close friends and eventually finding Frank about half way up the hall.
'Hey, seen Pete today?'
'No, why?'
'He's not wearing eyeliner, it's really weird,' Frank smiled at him and pulled him down the corridor quickly in the direction of their first class.
'Pete! Hey!' Frank called out as they reached the door of their maths classroom.
'Mikey, Frank, hi,' Pete beamed back. Mikey did notice the lack of dark, black encircling Pete's eyes and wasn't sure if he liked it or not.
'Mikey has something to ask you,' Frank said quickly with a smile before turning and vanishing into the classroom.
Pete and Mikey stood in an awkward silence for a moment, both of them half smiling and glancing between their own feet and the others face.
'What do you want to ask me?'
Mikey suddenly felt very nervous and was worried he wouldn't be able to get the words out if he tried. He took a moment to calm himself and looked Pete directly in the eyes. 'I was just wondering if you would like to go out sometime? On a date? With me?' He blurted out all too quickly that he was almost sure if he hadn't have said the words he wouldn't have understood what they were.
'Really?' Pete's face burst into a gigantic smile. Mikey nodded slowly. 'Yes, yes, of course!' Pete said slightly too loudly and enthusiastically.
Mikey smiled at how excited Pete was and noticed his brother standing in the corridor behind Pete smirking.
'Great, I'll...em, talk to you about it later? At lunch, maybe?' He asked, paying more attention to his smug looking brother than he would have liked. Pete nodded as the bell rang, he then cursed under his breath and ran down the corridor waving goodbye. Mikey's attention was now given fully to Gerard.
'You asked him out, I'm proud of you.'
'Frank pretty much made me.'
'Good, tell them well done.'
'Where's Lindsey?'
'Class.'
'Why are you here?'
'I was just walking about,' Gerard shrugged then pointed to the bathrooms beside him. 'Go learn some maths!' Gerard shouted while walking back in the direction of his class.
Mikey groaned in annoyance then realised he had to talk to Frank about what they had just done to him and practically stormed into the classroom and over to Frank fucking Iero.
'Why?' Mikey asked in an over exaggerated cry.
'You just needed a push in the right direction,' Frank said with out looking up from their bag, carefully taking books out and setting them on the desk in front of them.
'Not like that,' he slumped into the seat beside Frank.
'Did it work,' Frank looked over at their best friend who crossed there arms and mumbled a response in resentment. 'See, I was right,' Frank smiled proudly.
'Gerard is going to take the piss out of me for months now,' Mikey put his arms on his desk and threw his head onto them.
'What?'
Mikey turned his head to look across at Frank, 'he was just standing there, I don't know how long he was there, he just kind of stood there smirking and then said some stuff, I don't know.'
'At least he's just your brother,' Frank laughed.
'I guess,' Mikey sighed as their maths teacher walked into the room.
'Ok, class, trig identities!' The teacher announced excitedly only to hear groans and complaints in response.
'He asked Pete out, finally,' Gerard announced to Lindsey when they had a moment alone.
'Really? That's great!' She smiled brightly, Gerard nodded in agreement as they walked together towards the school doors. 'How was art?'
'Ok, biology?'
'Great, no frogs today!' She laughed.
'Good,' Gerard replied simply. If this was a conversation with anyone else Lindsey would have been worried that the other person didn't want her around, but she knew Gerard well and knew he wasn't that big on talking.
'What about his friend?'
Gerard shrugged.
'Frank, was it?'
Gerard shrugged again.
'Do you think he's depressed?'
'They,' Gerard corrected.
'Do you think they are depressed?'
Gerard shrugged again.
'Text me next time they're over and we can figure it out together?'
Gerard nodded.
'Ok, see you later,' Lindsey kissed Gerard's cheek softly before jumping into her friends car.
'Hey, Gee!' Mikey called out from the school gates. Gerard waved and smiled. 'Frank's coming home, that's ok right?' Gerard nodded and smiled slightly. 'We just gotta wait on them.' Gerard nodded a final time as he reached his younger brother.
Pete walked past and smiled at the Way brothers who smiled back, Mikey much more enthusiastically.
'Why is Pete not wearing eyeliner? Is he like no emo anymore or something?'
'Pete will always be emo, even if he cuts his hair, dyes it blonde and never wears eyeliner again. Always. Emo forever. That's Pete Wentz.' They both laughed quietly as Frank waltzed up beside them.
'What's so funny?' they asked.
'Forever emo, always.' Mikey smiled. Gerard nodded. 'Home time!' Mikey called as he skipped away from the school gates.
