Perfect Storm

The way she pulls you closer
As you dance around the room
You tell her she is beautiful
But you don't have a clue

She tries to make you happy
That's how it always goes
But a little bit of lip gloss
Can't compare to what she knows

The constellations in her starry eyes
You haven't yet had the chance to wreck
Cause you're too busy staring
At the diamonds on her neck

You tell her what she wants to hear
And she believes it, too
But you're consumed in hazy days
And drown yourself in gloom

The moonlight shines on both of you
Through the window down the hall
She thinks it sets the perfect mood
But you don't care at all

She tells you all her wildest dreams
You shake your head and sigh
She's just another star
Fading in your meaningless sky

She stares into your lifeless eyes
And paints a picture in the dark
Her work could move the oceans
But can't cut through your stone cold heart

She tells her friends you'll stand by her
But to you it's just a game
She thinks you're lost in wonderland
You think she's gone insane

So you head towards her bedroom
Shadows dancing on the floor
She wants you to sing her favorite song
But you don't know it anymore

A wilted flower's on her dresser
The one you brought on your first date
Empty bottles stacked up in the corner
Show that she's been up too late

Sometimes she wonders if it's worth it
She doesn't want to be your toy
Why create something so beautiful
Just for it to be destroyed

Because she remembers everything
Your favorite color, favorite book
But you couldn't see the numbness in her eyes
Even if you tried to look

But she thinks that you still love her
Even with the bruises on her arms
Her friends say you're destructive
She tells them love is hard

There's a hurricane inside of you
And she was never warned
She's always hidden from the thunder
But you're her perfect storm

So you reach over her shoulder
Thinking of the nights you've had before
She thinks you pull her closer, too
But you're just downing one drink more
