"Pleeeaaassseee?" Marybeth whined.
"Mary Elizabeth Chapman, we've been over this ten thousand times. I don't know!" Matt stated very firmly. He thought that if he told her it was Joe she would go off running.
"Come on bro, cut me some slack!" Marybeth cried. "Haven't you ever wanted to know who your soulmate is?"
Matt thought about that. Of course he was curious, but he didn't really want to spoil all the surprise in his life. Although it would be nice just to...
"No." Matt said. "Never thought about it."
Marybeth turned her head back to the TV. "Run Natsu! Run like the wind!"
Charlie came running into the room. She jumped onto Matt's lap.
'Hey princess How was school?' Matt asked.
'Good' she smiled so brightly 'guess what'
'What'
'There's a boy there that can talk with his hands like me'
That made Matt smile. 'That's great'
'Yeah' she nodded. 'His name is Justin.'
'Very nice'
"What are you guys talking about?" Marybeth asked casually.
"There's a boy at her school that knows sign language so they can talk." Matt said.
Marybeth smiled. "That's awesome."
"Yeah." Matt said.
Charlie started talking again. She looked at Marybeth hopefully.
"What?" Marybeth asked.
"She wants you to make the fudge." Matt said, the same hopeful look on his face.
Marybeth ruffled Matt's hair. "Only if you two goofballs help me."
"Let's go!" Matt said. Matt picked up Charlie and all three of them charged to the kitchen.

The fudge didn't go as well as Matt hoped. As soon as he heard the fire alarms he picked up Marybeth in one arm slung over his shoulder, scooped up Charlie in the other and ordered them to stay outside until he had it under control. He grabbed the fire extinguisher and sprayed the whole lot of it.
After cleaning up the damage which was only a few ruined dish cloths and the remains of some crayon drawings he told Marybeth and Charlie to come in.
"Well we had our first day of middle school, found out I was gay, watched anime, set the kitchen on fire, and it's not even supper time yet." Matt said. "Speaking of which, Mom's got a case so she's probably gonna be late and it's my day to make supper."
'Charlie what do you want for supper'
  'Fudge'
'Yeah me too but we can't have fudge so what do you want?'
  'Spaggitty'
Matt raised a confused eyebrow. 'Spaghetti'
  Charlie nodded.
"Murry, would you care to join us for dinner?" Matt asked all gentleman like in his best old-rich-guy voice.
"Why that sounds absolutely splendid." Marybeth said in a sloppy British accent mixed with a little Pacifica Northwest's Mom's voice mixed in there. The two of the laughed. "Lemme call my mom first." Marybeth picked up the phone which Matt was rather fond of because it was a rotary phone and dialling the numbers was fun. Charlie loves it too.
Matt boiled the water and started cooking the noodles. He sat down next to Charlie and Marybeth who were at the table with a bunch of crayons and pencil crayons.
Marybeth was drawing a brown horse with a shiny blonde mane. It was super good. Charlie was drawing dragon who was no doubt setting the innocent villages on fire. That is how I raised my baby sister and I wouldn't change a thing.

"How do these schedules even work? Why are all different classes in all different rooms?" Matt complained. It was one week into school and he still wasn't used to it. He thought it was all just unnecessary.
As Matt was sorting through his papers he bumped into something. Or someone.
It was a boy. A really, really cute boy. He had blonde hair that was styled like the way Tyler Oakley does it. His blue eyes matched his blue skinny jeans (that weren't just regular jeans they were dyed a bright royal blue) and his black Chucks had yellow laces on one foot pink laces on the other. And he was wearing a tee shirt that had the Hufflepuff crest on it.
Both boys crashed to the floor with an "Agh!"
Matt made eye contact with the boy for a couple seconds. He was the most gorgeous human he had ever laid eyes on (except for of course Charlie and Marybeth because Sisters before Misters). The boy looked totally unaware of what to do, so Matt decided to make the first move.
"Uh, sorry!" He said collecting all the boy's papers and his own off the floor.
"Oh no," The boy protested "totally my fault."
Matt got up and held out his hand to help the boy up. The boy shyly took his hand and got on his feet. Matt noticed the boy was about five centimetres shorter than him. Oh no he's short, that's cute.
The boy took his papers from Matt. "Um, do you know where the band room is?" He asked.
"I'm headed there right now." Matt said. "Follow me."
The two boys walked down the hallway.
Oh no, Matt thought, He's wearing a Hogwarts shirt. And he's short. And he's got blonde hair, oh god oh god oh god.
  "Hey, nice shirt." Matt said.
"Thanks," The boy said. "I like yours, too."
Matt looked down at his Ravenclaw shirt. "Yeah, thanks."
"People think that Gryffindor and Slytherin are all that, but I'm proud to be a Hufflepuff, you know?"
"I've said that so many times and no one listens!" Matt cried. "Gryffindor is too mainstream."
"Slytherin is home to Draco Malfoy," The boy scowled. "Like nah."
"Exactly," Matt agreed. "Plus Luna is super badass and was she in Gryffindor? Nope."
"Tonks was a Hufflepuff. Did Harry Potter give birth then go fight a Dark Lord? I think not."
Matt laughed. "I'm Matt, by the by."
  "Colin," he said.
Matt stared at him a moment. "Your name is Colin... And you're a Hufflepuff?"
  "Ironically enough, yes." Colin said.
The two of them laughed and talked all the way to band, all through math class and all through lunch time.
Colin took a sip of his drink. "So, what do think? Any girls here you like?"
Matt went red. "Um, no. Actually I, uh, play for the other team."
Colin gave a confused look. "What team?"
"WILDCATS!" Matt screamed so loud that Colin spilled his juice. Matt burst into laughter. "Aw man... Oh hahaha... No no, I meant that I'm gay."
"Okay then, any boys here you like?" Colin asked.
  "No." Matt said quickly.
"Okay." Colin said. "Keep me posted if you decide to fall in love with anyone."
  "Will do." Matt said.
  The bell rang. Ugghhhhhh.
  "Let's go," Matt said.
Both of them walked off to English.
