------------
My loud, racing heartbeat felt like my chest was about to burst as I knocked on the door of Kit's house. The brisk British air swam around my body before he opened the door, smiling at me. "Hey, Kat. Come in." He shifted to the side as the warmth hugged my frame and burned my frozen fingertips. The corners of my mouth lifted as he turned to face me, "shall I start with a grand tour of the bachelor pad?" A light chuckle erupted from my chest and he began; first with the lounge room, second with the bathroom, third with the kitchen and fourth with the back veranda. "Can I get you a cup of tea or coffee?
"That would be wonderful."
He gently nodded, "you continue your book and I'll bring it in to you." I turned on my heels and lazily made my way to the oh-so-inviting lounge, before plonking myself into it and reading in the dearly missed silence. "Oh, by the way, Richard asked if we wanted to go out for a couple of drinks with him and Mona. You okay with that?"
"Yeah, that's cool."
"Great, we're going with them on Tuesday after work."
* * *
"Yeah, so first my sister rang, then Finn stopped by and then you called." I had given up on my book, besides; Kit was much better company in comparison to the seemingly plain world printed on the pages in front of me.
"Why did Finn go to your house?" His face seemed to drop into confusion and perhaps even a little irritation.
"To apologise."
"For which part exactly?" He scoffed. I could sense anger was beginning to build as his body tensed.
"That's what I asked him. He said that he was sorry for everything and that what he said was uncalled for. He also told me that he won't get in the way of us, but asked that we keep the PDA's to a minimum when he's around."
"And what did you say to that."
"I said that it would be fine and that I was sorry for leading him on."
"What do you mean that's fine? Why should we have to act like friends just to please him?" Frustration and anger drenched his voice as it seeped through each word. He stood from the couch as his frame hung tensely over mine.
"Because he's still my friend, Kit. Yes, he said some things he shouldn't have, but he was angry and upset, that's to be expected. Just because he made a mistake doesn't mean I'm going to hold a grudge against him forever. That's not who I am. I forgive people." The tension began to rise and the air was flooded with hostility that begged to boil over.
