Squid?
Both words are written neatly, with no sign of being a half hearted scrawl or scribble. It must have meant something. What was it doing on my sheet otherwise? I was having trouble comprehending my own notes and we hadn't even begun poetry yet.
Why squid? What did squid mean? Squid had nothing to do with the problems of the Keller family. Squid had nothing to do with the faulty airplane parts Joe Keller sold to the military.
Squid was a word as far from the plot of All My Sons as Harry Potter was from Sirius Black when he mistakenly went to the Department of Mysteries to save him.
I was curious, but I shoved the thought of squid back in my head, writing it on a post-it note to ponder about later as I got back to coming up with vague bullshit with indefinite meaning that related back to the original question about the dramatic importance of the neighbors in All My Sons.
