The day it all started happened to be a Wednesday. I love Wednesday's. They are slap bang in the middle of the week. Two days from Monday and two days from Friday. Also, for some reason, less people decided to take taxi's on Wednesday so I usually had the day to myself. I opened up the curtains and squinted into the early morning light. There was a magpie on the railings of my balcony. "Not a good sign..." I said to myself. I shooed the bird away and carried on with my morning routine.
I got dressed into my useful flannel shirt and jeans and went down to have some breakfast. As I looked in the fridge I remembered that I had forgot to buy any milk the previous day so breakfast was not an option. I would have to go to work without. Perhaps I'd buy something on the way.
I hopped on the bus going towards the taxi company. The bus didn't go very close but I liked the fresh air I would get from the 15 minute walk. As I arrived, I saw several people getting into their respective taxi's and driving away. I quickly got my keys from the office and got into my cab. I began my routine drive around the neighbourhood, waiting for the call that would give me a job.
*****************************************************************************************************Half an hour later, I got the call that I had been waiting for. My boss said I should drive down to Shadylane. He said a man was waiting to be taken to the tube station.
"Are you sure?" I said.
"Positive," he said, slightly uncertainly.
Now let me explain something quickly...Shadylane, like the name suggests, is a part of town that no one really likes to talk about. This is because strange things occur down Shadylane. For example, a couple of years back, a whole family just disappeared from their house. They had just up and left. No one noticed until the landlord went round there looking for their rent and found that they weren't there. All their belongings were but just not them. Some people say they could've just gone to visit some family elsewhere, but I, like many others, believe in a rather more sinister theory. But anyway back on to the story.
I drove on down to Shadylane, and called the boss back asking for the address. He gave it to me and I began looking up the street for the right house. As I approached the last few houses, I saw the right one. At that moment, I got a chill as I realised that this was the house that that family had deserted...I got out of my cab to take a look. And that's when I saw it...
I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. Please comment on what you think might happen next or if you just like it. I will try and publish more chapters if you guys like the book. Thanks:)
