“Afternoon, Miss Stone. How was your day?” Bailey asks with his traditional smiles.

I heave a big sigh and say, “Not very good. It was useless. I didn’t find out anything more that I needed to know.”

He shrugs and opens the door for me. “Better luck tomorrow then, hm?” I smile before walking inside towards the elevator. The heat of the building warms me up immensely. I tuck my hair behind my ears and wait for an elevator.

Today was terrible. I wish that it had gone better! I am no closer to finding who killed Erin. I wish that someone would have just talked and told me everything they knew. Well, I hope Bailey is right. Better luck tomorrow.

Once I’m in my apartment I remove my jacket and toss it onto a chair. What should I do? There has to be some clues. So by the suggestion of Erin’s body she was beaten…I already know that. But I suppose that whoever beat her was quite big or strong compared to her considering the large wounds. But also, why would someone go to the trouble of putting her in my office. I keep my office locked during the night, not even Erin could get in. Yet the door was wide open and she was there. I flinch at the thought back to when I found her. Erin…I wish you were here.

My doorbell rings and I lose my train of thought. I move over to it and open it.

I open the door to two boys standing outside of it.

“Yeah?” I ask curious to know what they want.

The better looking one speaks. His hair is a sandy blonde and is tussled in his face. His eyes are hazel with a tint of green in them. He’s tall, taller than me and he is a strong build. But there’s something about him that feels familiar.

“Um, you know Erin Heart, right? I’m her brother. Do you know where she is?” My mouth falls open in shock. As soon as the words fall out of his mouth it hits me. That’s why he’s so familiar. I can’t believe it! I didn’t know that she had a brother…I don’t think that she knew that she had a brother!

“You’re Erin’s brother?” I manage and that’s all I could manage. I could feel my heart banging against my chest. This is too much.

He nods and stares at me like I’m crazy.

“Oh my god. Oh my god. You need to know something.” My throat tightens and it suddenly becomes hard to speak. This boy, this poor boy has come looking for his sister only to find out that she is no longer alive. “Erin, your sister, she has been….murdered.” I finaly answer tears slowly sliding down my cheeks. I try to swallow the lump in my throat but I can’t do anything but watch him and his world fall apart. He cleary wasn’t expecting this news. “Come in.” I say quickly, widening the door. “Make yourselves at home.”

The boy that he’s with is a bit shorter and wider with brown hair and brown eyes. They make their way to my couch and the bigger one puts his arm over his shoulder.

I make my way to the kitchen and begin making some tea. I wipe away my tears with the back of my hand and try to calm myself down. I bring over the tea and hand them both a mug. I can see that Erin’s brother is now crying so I pass him a box of tissues.

“I’m so sorry.” I say, sitting beside him. “She was an amazing friend.” He just continues staring at his tea. “What are your names?”

“I’m Jordan and he’s Luke.” Says the bigger one. I smile at him then turn my head to Luke.

“Hey, Luke, would you like to see a picture of her?” He looks up and me and nods, wiping away his tears. I feel like I know him already.

I stand up, place my mug on my coffee table, and walk to my room. I have the perfect picture on my bedside table. I bring it back to the couch and show Luke the picture of Erin and me at our work when we were just starting out. I remember that day perfectly. We both dressed really nicely and tied up our hair and acted very professional.

“This was taken when we started to work at our current company.” Then I pause realising that it isn’t Erin’s current company and I try to choke back the tears.

“D-do you at least know who killed her?” He asks, sniffing.

I shake my head and stare at the floor. “But I’m trying to find that out. I’m not having the best luck today.”

“We can help.” Luke says, livening up a bit.

“Ok, but are you sure you’re up to it?” I ask, picking up my tea and drinking it.

   They both nod.

“Well, I’ll need all of the help that I can get, so sure.” We all exchange smiles. “Hey, but do you guys have a place to stay?”

   Jordan shakes his head.

“Would you like to stay here?” I ask. Now, normally I wouldn’t invite people that I only just met to stay over at my house but I really feel as though I know them.

“If you wouldn’t mind.” Luke replies sheepishly.

“Great. So, if you don’t mind, you too can share the couch. I’ll be in my room which is just down that hall,” I say, pointing. “and if there’s anything that you need, just ask. I’ll get you some blankets and pillows.”

I head over to a cupboard and pull out two blankets and two pillows. I bring them over to the boys and they thank me for everything. I can’t stop looking at Luke, though. He’s really handsome.

I say goodnight then get ready for bed. So I guess this day wasn’t so bad after all.
