It was soon to be a new year- the hype of Christmas was over, and all anyone cared about was the year ending. All except Huey Freeman, I suppose. Instead, he stared at his computer screen, looking for a deal on a new television set. Jazmine was with him of course, as usual, and all of her family and the Freeman's were downstairs, crowded around granddads Tv, waiting for the ball to drop. Of course, Huey didn't give a single shit, but allowed Jazmine to have it on his tv as well, because he knew it mattered to her.
"Next year, I'm going to work hard to make those around me even happier." She said promised enthusiastically, clasping her hands together.
In Huey's mind, she was already the most helpful person he knew. She was always there for him, and did her best to help even strangers. She was already kind enough as it was.
"What're you gonna to do, Huey?" She smiled, turning back to him, who was then turned to look at her as well.
"Jazmine, I've told you that it's a made up concept, that is used to gain money from watching some damn ball drop, and get people to buy cheesy decorations that you'll only use once." He rolled his eyes. "I'll read more.." He finally said, turning back around to look back to his computer screen.
Jazmine frowned, but then turned back to the screen.
"5, 4, 3.."
"Huey! We gotta kiss, or we'll get bad luck!" Jazmine squealed, running over to him. He looked up at her blankly for a second, before pulling her into his lap.
"Happy new year, Jazmine." And with that being said, he kissed her lips briefly.
Jazmine was a bit naïve. So these little kisses, hugs, touches- well, they were only sign of everyday best friend affection, in her eyes. But for Huey... Well, who knew what they meant to him.
When the kiss was over, Jazmine sat in his lap, watching the celebration on tv, and the noise downstairs.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR, NIGGA!" Riley Screeched, looking in to see them, and throwing confetti everywhere.
