“9-1-1 what’s your emergency?”

“My friend has been shot. It was an accident.”

Family means too much; friends are too valuable

And life is too short to put off; sharing with people

How much they really mean to you and how their happiness

Is all what you aim for in life. The tragedy of life is not death.

But what we let die inside of us; while we live

Kellin POV

“Shh. It’s not your fault. It was an accident. Okay? No one goes through this alone.” I kept trying to explain it that it’s no one’s fault.

“It is my fault.” Using a hand to push back their hair I met the eyes I dreaded to see. Broken, sad, confused, and most of all, lost. I tore myself away from those eyes and pushed myself off the ground. I put my face against the window and looked at the friend who risked a life for another. The sobbing was back.

“Stop crying. Strong people always make it through and write now, there is a very strong person in the bed who risked a life for you. It’s going to be okay. Austin is gonna be okay.” Megan looked at me again and she collapsed in my arms.

“I should’ve just took an overdose and died peacefully. Somewhat. I can’t even tell what’s real or not anymore.” She sobbed. She was still in the dress she wore to the wedding.

“Well, let’s put life into a game of real or not. We ask each other questions and we respond with real or not real.” She nodded and wiped away the few remaining tears. “I’ll go first. Did you really try to commit suicide? Real or not real?” she looked at me for a moment.

“Real.” She said blankly. “Do you really love me?” I opened my mouth to answer but a nurse came in. Megan sat up automatically and the nurse motioned for us to follow her. she pointed to a room all the way down the hall. Before she could tell us what room number, Megan took off running. Stumbling every once and a while because of the heels, but she found the room. I ran after her and she was standing there looking at Austin. He was up and awake, but there was a huge gauge around his stomach.

“The bullet went through the left side of his chest. It didn’t penetrate the left lung or any other vital organs. He’s going to make a full recovery in a couple of days.” The doctor smiled and walked out. My phone rang and I had to answer. I pointed towards the door and walked out.

“Hello?”

“Kellin. Can I talk to uh, Megan?”

“Vic now’s not a good time. We’re at the hospital.”

“Well, I might as well tell you. Her mom is dead.” I sighed.

“I know what to do now. And I don't even want to know how.”

“Okay man. Wait, what are you doing?”

“Getting Megan closure.”

Megan POV

Kellin said he had a family issue and had to leave. Leaving me here with Austin is the scariest thing I’ve ever done.

“Austin. I know you hate me. I’m sorry. But now you probably want me to move out. I’m just so lost. I don’t know myself anymore. I don’t.” he scooted over and pated the spot next to him.

“Megan, I wouldn’t take back what happened for the world. It’s just while I’m here, a friend of mine is going to be at our place to watch you.” He looked tired. His face was covered with sweat. His breathing was irregular. “He won’t be here until tomorrow so either you stay there by yourself or go to Kellin’s.” I nodded. Most likely I have no choice but to go to Kellin’s. I wrinkled my nose up as something disgusting filled the air. I looked at Austin who had his attention elsewhere.
