AN: this is my first fanfiction, I hope you enjoy, or at least keep reading :) I did a lot of extra research regarding this world, so hope you enjoy it! Also, thank you to my two great friends gofishie1413 and HarryPotterTookOver , for whom without this story would stay a figment of my imagination, with the them helping me come up with many characters and gofishie1413 helping me do research! ;) They both have Harry Potter fanfics so go check them out! HarryPotterTookOver has two, a Marauders Gen. story (on her joint account ForTheLoveOfPotter ) and a Jily specific story, and gofishie1413 is coming out with a Next Gen story with Rose and many other of the Weasley/Potter clan! Okay, so sorry for the really long intro, without further ado...

Cassidy Lupin eagerly awaited the mail. Today was the day her Hogwarts letter was supposed to arrive! The eleven-year-old sat outside by the cottage's door, waiting for the owl to come. She heard her name being called.

"Cassie, were you looking for this?" her father, Teddy, said with a smile. He pulled out a letter from his back pocket and handed it to her.
She squealed. "It's the letter! Can we go shopping in Diagon Alley today? Please?!"
"Hmm," Teddy said, hair changing colour as he pretended to think about it.

Cassidy giggled. She loved that her dad could change his hair colour like she can, because they were both Metamorphmagi. It made her feel like less of an outsider. She turned into a German Shepard puppy and started chewing her dad's pant leg. He laughed.
"Alright, alright, we'll go to Diagon Alley today."
Cassidy turned back into herself. "Yay!!"
She ran back inside, letter in hand, and told her mother, Victoire, that they were going to Diagon Alley today.

***********

Cassidy was bouncing up and down. She was so excited that she was getting her wand and supplies today, and then in a few weeks she'd be off on the Hogwarts Express, heading to school. They were heading into Ollivander's, after taking two hours to get robes, books, a cauldron, and other necessities.

They walked through the door, and the now-ancient Ollivander greeted Cassidy's mum and dad.
"Teddy Lupin! Is that you? And Victoire Weasley! Oh, how lovely. I remember you two getting your wands."
"Hullo, Mr. Ollivander," said Victoire. "We're here to get Cassidy's wand."
"She's going off to Hogwarts this September," Teddy said proudly. Ollivander chuckled. "Alright then, follow me, Miss Lupin!"

Ollivander helped Cassidy get her wand, and after trying two wands, the wand that chose her was a 13 inch spruce with a phoenix feather core, and "unyielding flexibility," as Ollivander called it.

She turned and thanked Ollivander, and followed her parents out the door. She dropped one of her books, The Standard Book of Spells, and picked it up, but as she bent over she almost took out another student while falling on her own butt.
"'Scuse me, I'm so sorry!" Cassidy apologised, laughing. She looked up and saw a boy about her age, with short blonde hair brushed to the side.
He laughed and helped her up. When she stood up, they were about the same height.
"Sorry I'm such a klutz," Cassidy said again, laughing. "My name's Cassidy. Yours is?"
"Randall Connolly, but I go by Ran. Is this year your first at Hogwarts too?" he inquired.
"Yeah, I can't wait for the year to start!"
"It'll be awesome, for sure."
As Cassidy and Ran were talking, Victoire called to Cassidy. "C'mon, Cass. We're meeting some family friends at the Leaky Cauldron."
"Coming, Mum!" Cassidy turned back to Ran. "Maybe'll see you on the train September 1st?"
"Quite possibly. Hope to see you there," he said. "I have to go get my wand today too, so bye!"

*******

The Leaky Cauldron was fairly empty, except for what Cassidy presumed to be the regulars and a family at one of the tables.
"That's them, the Fawleys," Teddy said, gesturing to the family with a boy Cassidy's age with messy dark brown hair and a younger boy with the same shade of hair, about nine. "They were your mum's and my friends at Hogwarts."

Teddy and Victoire greet their school friends, and start talking and laughing. Cassidy, feeling rather awkward, pulled out one of her school books, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, and started reading it, hoping to get a head start for the year in Potions, which she had a feeling she might not do too well in.

Cassidy was absentmindedly bouncing her foot up and down while reading when the boy her age came up to her.
"Hullo, what's your name? Mine's Maxwell. Our parents seem to be having a fun time," he said, gesturing to the parents. He looked back at Cassidy, and saw what she was reading. "Why are you reading school books before school starts?!" he asked, bewildered.
"Because I want to be prepared. I would rather be reading Quidditch Throughout the Ages, but I left it at home. Oh, and my name is Cassidy," added Cassidy.
"You like Quidditch too? Brilliant! Now we have something in common to talk about," Maxwell enthusiastically said.
"Looks like we do," said Cassidy with a smile.
