Cassidy and Maxwell were looking for an empty compartment, and found one towards the back. They set their stuff down, and as soon as Cassidy sat down, she opened up her books.

Maxwell scowled when he saw what Cassidy was reading. "You're still reading a school book? We'll be there in a matter of hours. You can learn then. These are your last minutes of summer!"
"Summer's overrated," Cassidy mumbled. "Besides, we get to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry! It's brilliant!" She said louder.
"Doesn't mean you have to start now. Hey, I thought you would rather be reading Quidditch Throughout the Ages?"
"Well, I've finished it loads of times. And I am actually quite fascinated by some of these plants. For example, wolfsbane, also called monkswood or aconite, is a highly toxic plant, yet it can be used for the Wolfsbane Potion, a potion which helps ease the symptoms of lycanthropy that is to be taken at a certain time each day leading up to the full moon. It got the name 'wolfsbane' because in medieval times it was used to poison wolves the people would hunt. Also—"
"Okay, I get the point, Miss Know-It-All."
"I am not a know-it-all, Maxwell!" retorted Cassidy, and as she did so, her hair flashed a deep crimson colour, then returned to its normal golden brown.
"Woah! Your hair!" exclaimed Maxwell.
Cassidy's freckled face began to blush furiously. "Um, yeah... Maxwell, I—I'm a Metamorphmagus."
"Wicked!" Maxwell said, eyes lit up. "Oh, and by the way, I don't usually get called Maxwell. Too long. Too formal. Too boring. Just call me Max."
"Okay, while we're talking about names, just call me Cass or Cassie, if you don't mind," added Cassidy, her face finally cooling down from the blushing.

They heard the conductor say that they were leaving, and Cassidy and Max stuck their heads out the window to say goodbye to their parents, along with many of the other students doing the same. Cassidy's mum shouted as they started moving, "OH! I ALMOST FORGOT! YOUR BACK TO SCHOOL PRESENT IS GOING DIRECTLY TO HOGWARTS!" This left Cassidy puzzled as to what it could be, but she thanked her mum as they train moved. Cassidy and Max waved until the Hogwarts Express left King's Cross, and they closed the window.

There were still students trying to find seats, so there was an almost constant sound of shuffling feet outside the compartment. As Cassidy pulled her legs up to sit criss-cross in her seat, a girl about average height with shoulder length, wavy blonde hair came into the compartment.
"Could I sit with you guys?" she asked.
"Sure, no problem. What's your name? Cassidy inquired.
"Griselda Gwendolyn. Very lengthy name. My parents apparently wanted to go really old school with my name," she said with a lighthearted laugh.
"Nice to meet you Grizzy. I'm Cassidy Lupin and this is Maxwell Fawley."
"My name's not Grizzy."
"Well, Griselda's way too long, so your nickname should be Grizzy. Or Grizzly. But I doubt you want to be named after a bear," added Cassidy.
"How about Zelda?" Max suggested.
"Eh, maybe, but I'll stick to Grizzy."
"Zelda's better than Grizzy," Griselda pointed out.
"Still calling you Grizzy!" laughed Cassidy.

Just then, another girl with crazy red hair and wild brown eyes came in and sat down next to Max.
"Huff!" she puffed. "Don't do that again," she scolded her pocket.
"Um, what're you telling off?" asked Griselda.
"Oh! My annoying, yet EXTREMELY cute pygmy puff, Schmurfel."
"What kind of a name is Schmurfel?" scoffed Max.
The girl turned to Max. "It's a perfectly fine name! Only girls come up with amazingly unique names like Schmurfel."
"Anyway! What's your name?" inquired Cassidy, trying to ease the tension between the girl and Max.
"Dawn Tristan. And you are?" she said in a more friendly tone.
"I'm Cass, this is Grizzy, and this is Max," Cassidy said, gesturing to everyone in turn.

Just then, Schmurfel popped out of Dawn's pocket and started bouncing all around the compartment, and they kept trying to catch him with no such luck. Cassidy lunged for him, but he bounced out of the way onto Max's head. Dawn then smacked Max's face.
"Hey!" he shouted.
"Sorry, I was trying to knock Schmurfel off your head," she shrugged.
"Little low!" he yelled back.
"I did knock him off, didn't I?"
"Got him!" yelled Griselda. Dawn put aside her bickering and ran to Schmurfel.
"Oh you poor fluff ball! Thanks Grizzy!"
"My name's Griselda," Griselda stated bluntly.
"But Grizzy sounds better," Dawn concluded as she rocked her pygmy puff.

Outside the compartment of excitement, Cassidy heard the trolley lady.
"Anything from the trolley!" she kept repeating, trying to tell the students. Cassidy got up to get a pumpkin pasty, her favourite treat. She saw Ran standing, waiting to get a treat on the other side of the trolley.
"Hey! Ran!" Cassidy said.
Ran looked up and waved to her. Ran bought his sweets, and Cassidy bought her pumpkin pasty. She motioned for him  to come over.
"Hey Randall. Looks like we did see each other on the train," Cassidy pointed out.
"Yeah, I guess so!" he said with a smile.
"Hey, d'you want to come into our compartment?" Cassidy asked.
"Sure, it beats sitting in the compartment with my older brother."

They went into the compartment, and Griselda had move next to Dawn and they were chatting, while Max was eating a chocolate frog. Ran sat next to Max, and they started talking about Quidditch teams. Cassidy sat down by the window on the other side of Dawn, and the three of them started talking about classes.
"My parents were muggles, as you wizards call it, so this is all a really new experience for me!" said Griselda enthusiastically.
"Hmm, so you've never seen a Metamorphmagus, have you?" said Dawn. She then changed her hair colour to a bright yellow, then back to her ginger hair.
"Woah!" she said in reply.
"Wait, you're a Metamorphmagus too?" Cassidy said excitedly. "So am I!"
"That's fantastic!"
"I'm still a little unclear about all this," admitted Griselda.
Dawn just laughed. "Oh, darling, we have so much to teach you!"

After many long discussions and explanations, Cassidy got up.
"I'm going to go get my robes on, we must be arriving soon," she announced.
She went to go get her robes on, and eventually they all got their robes on.

As Cassidy guessed, they arrived at Hogsmeade Station shortly after, and the groundskeeper, Hagrid, showed them to the boats, as they went across the lake to officially begin their first year at Hogwarts.
