AN: okay, I'm going to be warning you when the POV switches; it's still all going to be in third person, but this chapter specifically will be from Max's point-of-view. Also, in this chapter some of the old characters from JK make an appearance. I do not own them in any way, shape or form. As always, thanks for all your support!

As they pulled up to Hogwarts in the boats, almost all the students let out a gasp of awe. The castle was huge, with large stones making up the grand façade. They all started buzzing and shifting in the boats, getting antsy. Some, like Cassidy, began to wear a face of worry; others, much like Max himself, started getting extremely excited, convinced of what house they would be in. Everyone, though, started talking about what house and what classes they would be in.*******
After they entered, they saw the Sorting Hat do quite a magical performance. Many of the Muggle-born students were startled when the hat lurched to life and began singing. Max looked back and saw that Griselda was one of those Muggle-borns, and stifled a laugh. The Sorting Hat then began to sort the students.
"First up: Alger, Julia!" the deputy headmaster, Professor Longbottom, called.
People kept being called up, one by one, to be sorted. Max barely paid attention, only watching when he heard one of his friends' names being called.
"Connolly, Randall!"
Max looked up. Ran walked up pretty stiffly, obviously nervous, or shy, or perhaps both. Why should he be nervous? Max asked himself.
"RAVENCLAW!" the hat shouted after about five seconds. Max applauded, slightly disappointed. Max knew he himself was going to be a Gryffindor, so it made it almost sad that, once Max joined the Quidditch team next year, that he was going to slaughter Ran's house's team.
"Fawley, Maxwell!"
Max went up cheekily. Very quickly, the Sorting Hat yelled, "GRYFFINDOR!"
This made Ran beam with pride, and the large Gryffindor table rose out of their seats to cheer the new students. Don't they get tired doing that, even after they get through all the students?
"Fisher, Jillian!" Longbottom called next. Max zoned out again, but he knew Griselda was going to be called soon.
"Gwendolyn, Griselda!"
Griselda walked up and sat on the stool. The hat was placed on her head, hmm-ing and nodding to itself. It contemplated for about a minute and a half, and then shouted, "HUFFLEPUFF!"
Max was only partially shocked. Griselda did seem pretty nice, and loyalty, in his most humble opinion, was the second best trait besides bravery/chivalry/boldness.
Next up from his friends would be Cassidy, and from his view at the Gryffindor table, she seemed absolutely the most nervous, even more so than Ran. She was bobbing up and down on her feet, and looked really anxious.
After going through letters H, I, J, K, and the rest of L, Cassidy was called.
"Lupin, Cassidy!" Professor Longbottom called, and gave quite a look of knowing. Longbottom must've taught her dad and mum, Max thought.
She walked up, and the hat was placed on her head. It sat there for quite a long time, and Cassidy looked worried. After four minutes, Max was wondering if she was going to have a hatstall. Just then, her hair turned bubblegum pink, while her cheeks went red, and a few people laughed in the Hall, making her even more red. Max was wondering what could've made her blush so much, when the Sorting Hat yelled, "GRYFFINDOR!!!!"
Cassidy, still with pink hair and a red face, went to sit at the Gryffindor table as many people clapped. Max waved Cassidy down, and she sat next to him with a huff.
"What took so long?" Max asked, smiling.
"Itcouldntdecideifishouldgointogryffindororintoravenclawbecauseihonestlythoughtiwastobesortedintoravenclawbut I am now a Gryffindor," she said extremely fast.
"Okay, you said that really quickly, but I think I got what you said," Max replied. He then pointed to her hair. "Your hair is very pink."
"Oh dear Lord," she mumbled. She looked at her wavy hair and then it turned back to the golden-light brown hair. "It's my natural colour," she said, turned to me.
They then waited a long time before Dawn was called. Dawn might have smacked her hand across Max's face, and she might be really annoying to him, but he considered her at least an acquaintance, if not a friend.
"RAVENCLAW!" The Sorting Hat shouted very quickly, and Dawn went to sit next to Ran.After the ceremony, Headmaster Flitwick said the welcome speech and announcements, the students ate, then the prefects lead the students to their house-designated common rooms.
