It was a strange morning, the wardens gave us food like actual food, clean clothes and our bags were packed. I didn't understand at first but then Hazel came running in with a smile plastered on her face
"We're getting adopted!!" she says, I softly smile leaving no emotion that this family is going to be the death of me.
"The warden said that the lady has four kids too" she said, I felt scared but it didn't show. Hazel sat on my old crappy bed and just sat there
"What if they beat us addie?" she asks and I shake my head, I feel bad for not talking but I've just forgotten the words to even comfort her, My presence is the only comfort she needs. The warden then walked in and frowned at Hazel's scars and my legs
"Cover that shit up with this" she told Hazel and I to cover our bruises, scars and etc with makeup case they didn't want a bad name, Hazel sighed, I finishing my makeup. 'm scared for Hazel..We walked out to the adoption area where 9 people where, 2 girls and 5 guys. My anxiety started to hitch in my throat, The lady walked over and hugged us both but then Hazel pulled away, she looked confused, scared and upset. I placed my hand on her shoulder and she gave me a faint smile
"I'm Anne, These are my children. Ashton, Lauren and Harry. These are Ashton's band mates" she introduced us all and we all shook hands, the girl sort of my age shook my hand and I could tell she saw pain in my eyes. Hazel got hugs from the guys and it all came to me, One went to hug me but I stepped back and shook my head, Hazel grabbed my arm and sighed
"My sister, Addison isn't used to kindness, we both aren't." she explains and they all look upset, we sit down in the lounge room to get to know us, the warden listens through the glass mirror
"So hazel, Addison. I got a blood test and you're my daughters" Anne says, Hazel breaks down in tears and I'm left emotionless
"But how? I was dumped after my first birthday and Addie was kept until she was four" Hazel asked, and then a lawyer walked in
"You both were taken from our home just after 6 months of Hazel being born." Anne explained the lawyer wrote things down as I held Hazel's hand, Ashton couldn't stop watching us, Lauren was almost in tears with looking at us, Anne kept wiping her eyes, Harry just sat there taking it all in and the other 4 they were outside waiting in the car. All this time our mom wasn't truly our mom but our kidnapper,
'they will never love you, they're going to kill you' I started to freak out when the others screamed in my head, I got up from my chair breathing heavily and the makeup on my legs came off, they all stared at me as I just stood there crying and freaking out. Hazel tried to calm me down when ashton took me out of the building to get some air, we sat on the bench outside the door as I took in some deep breaths. Ashton was watching me
"Are you okay?" he asked, hoping I'd reply. I just nodded and swallowed a heap of air, We sat on the bench for a while when the other four guys walked out. They sat on the floor in front of us as I calmed down, they all smiled sweetly, one had short black hair with dark/light skin, the other had brown hair with a lip piercing and light skin and the last had red hair light/pale skin and an eyebrow piercing
"Oh addison, this is Calum, Luke and Michael" Ashton said as they waved when their names were said, Michael is cute, Luke is okay and Calum is funny, they all went silent when calum spoke up
"So how come you don't talk?" he asked and I tried to act it out but it didn't work
"Here type it on my phone" michael said handing me a phone, it was touch screen. I typed what I needed and handed it back to him, he gasped Luke took his phone
"house from house beatings, I couldn't cope, emotionless feelings, I don't talk because it's worthless. No one listens to me, Hazel is all I've got left besides the scars. I had to stop talking because every time I did I'd get beating, burning, and getting my head dunked and held under until I passed out." he read out, they all silently looked at each other than to me
"I'm sorry" they whisper, Ashton looks like he's going to rage which is scaring me.. we walked back inside and I sat next to Hazel again, she grabbed my hand and held it tightly. They talked about their home, neighbors, town, school and everything else. Lauren talked about her friends, Harry talked about his friends too and Ashton well he talked about his work and his bandmates he says they're nice but they can get annoying. Anne talked about her work and how she's willing to take two months off just for us, they all talked about their lives and now it's our turn, Hazel went first
"I don't want to talk about it now..sorry" She says and they all nod
"Addison hasn't spoken since she came out of the padded room" She then adds and they all nod again, Anne gets up and signs the papers and leaves them the money for us both
"You're both coming with us, we'll be good to you. We can be a family, we can give you food, music, a bed and anything you want." she says and the others nod, I'm happy that they want us but I'm worried about Hazel. We all piled into a little van and I sat at the very back with a guy named Calum, I like his hair. He talks about how protective Ashton is with Lauren and Harry and will be protective about us as well
"I remember seeing the smile on their faces when they would tell us that they found out about you two" he says, I sit there just looking at him. he smiles a little at me and scratches his head
"It's really horrible what you went through and I want you to know that I'll always be here for you, When you get a phone you can message me if you want, It can be late at night or early hours." he explains and I try to smile a little but he doesn't see it. we drive some more but I keep my eyes on Hazel, She's focused on the landscape outside the window. As she holds her diary close to her chest she looks in and I notice the guy with a lip piercing just looking at her, I'm not sure about him. She looks back outside the window again and I see her slightly smile, then the radio comes on and Hazel and I jump, Anne turns it down
"Sorry girls, it was just so silent" She says and Hazel speaks up
"No we're sorry we've just never heard music before because we weren't allowed" Hazel says my mind is agreeing with her.
