ϕThe Resistance Base bustled with excitement, the Rebels shouting and whooping for joy. They ran around with large grins, embracing each other in pure glee.
They won.
They defeated the First Order.
They destroyed the Starkiller.A comely young woman clad in black was leaned up against the wall, her eyes lost in another dimension.
"What's bothering you, Ava?" General Leia Organa approached her, having noticed her brooding expression.
Ava's solemn eyes lifted to meet with Leia's. "My brother. Poe. He's not back yet."
Leia nodded, now understanding her mood. She placed a hand empathically on the younger girl's shoulder. "I'm sure he'll be back, it's only been a couple hours."
"He's been captured... I can feel it." Tears started to well up in the pits of her golden eyes. "I can feel his fear..."
Normally, Leia would've dismissed the irrational comment. But Ava was different. She was a Jedi.
"I can't loose him... He's the only thing I have left!" She exclaimed, stressfully placing a delicate hand to her face as a single tear drifted down her cheek.
"Hey, hey, it's alright." Leia embraced her, knowing all too well the pain of loosing people close to you. Han...
"I'm so sorry... How very ignorant of me." Ava pulled back, regaining her composer. "You just lost Ben's father..."
Leia made a sad smile. "It's quite alright."
"I miss him."
"Me too."
They both stood in silence for several moments, just relishing the vibe of peace.
"I want you to break Poe out of the Starkiller Base." Leia broke the silence, locking eyes with Ava in determination.
"Ah, It's fi—"
"No, really. I don't have to be a Jedi to know that that's what's eating you alive. I feel it too."
"I don't know what to say..." Ava shook her head, a little flare of hope sparking inside her.
"Oh, and before I forget," Leia dug down in her pocket, pulling out a shinning silver cylinder. "I want to give you this."
"Oh no, Leia. I can't! I shouldn't... That was Ben's." Her eyebrows pulled together in sadness.
"That's why I want you to have it. You two were so close... Long ago. Before he was—"
"Captured by Kylo Ren." Ava spat.
"Yes, captured..." Leia looked away, stuttering.
I feel like there is something she hides from me... But I won't invade her privacy and read her thoughts.
"Thank you, Leia. This means a lot to me. I know you should be focusing on breaking Ben out first..." Ava smiled, finally accepting the gift and took the lightsaber.
"I will set up a rescue team for you in the morning." Leia nodded, indirectly ignoring what Ava had commented.
"Of course."
General Organa walked away, disappearing into the crowd. Ava traced the lightsaber with her fingers, a wave of mixed emotions engulfing her.
She remembered joining the Jedi Order with Ben Solo when they were young, training together. She closed her eyes, memories flooding in.
Memories are what warm you up on the inside.
But they are also what can tear you apart.ϕ
