Chapter 7
Willow stared at the two nutty companions, still trying to comprehend what they had just told them. “Experiments?”
“Wait a minute,” River said. “Is Frank short for another name?”
Batty raised her eyebrows. “Well, yeah. I thought you knew that.”
Badr looked confused. “Wait, hold on. I can’t catch up with your brain speeds. Do you know this Francis guy?” he asked the two siblings.
“Francis?” River looked bewildered.
“Yeah,” Badr started nodding, and then stopped. “Wait that is what Frank is short for, right?”
The golden knight snapped out of his dumbfounded-ness. “Of course, that is not his name, you dumb idiot. The old fogy has done many illegal things- most having to do with experimenting. Everyone knows who that old man is.”
“I don’t,” Badr said.
“Fine, everyone who matters.”
“Ouch,” Coope squinted. “That must ‘a hurt.”
Batty wrinkled her nose at the head knight. “You, sir, are officially a meanie.” He glared down at her. “And you, miss, are insane.”
Coope shook a finger at him. “Crazy, not insane; there’s a big difference.”
Willow shoved the Wanted picture that she had grabbed from the bakery store’s wall in Batty’s face. “Is this man’s full name Frankenstein?”
“Yup. Creepy name, right? He was always so proud of it, that weirdo.”
“So he experimented on you?” River asked.
Coope nodded. “Yeah, it kinda hurt, sometimes. Okay, a lot of times.”
“How long were you kept there?” Badr asked, then jumped to the side as the goblins passed by, dragging the two other unconscious creatures behind them. The men followed after, looking back to make sure the two crazies weren’t coming after them. Batty smiled widely at them, making the people walk faster until they turned the corner.
“Oh, about… uh,” she frowned, trying to remember what they were talking about.
“I think since we were- three. Or was it two?” Coope scratched his head.
“That’s horrible!” Willow exclaimed. “How did he get you?”
Batty grinned. “Oh, our parents gave us up. Most of the kids’ parents did that. That’s one of the only way he could get kids. Though I think we were experimented on the most.”
“Well, that’s just nice,” River commented. “Definitely something to be happy about.”
“You’re happy about it?”
“That’s a little rude.”
“Wait a minute, if you’re experiments, then how are you here now?” Badr asked.
Batty stared at him. “We’re hallucinations.”
The golden knight narrowed his eyes at them. “So that is how you lived.”
