Mad for each other

In the summer months that followed, Luke and I were inseparable. At college we would be linked together- after college we would be connected. We'd spend days at the park, sitting amongst the viridescent fields surrounded by rose, gold and sapphire flowers in bloom. Life was perfect.

Regrettably, Luke went away in July for a few weeks to see relatives in America. I was adrift. I didn't know what to do with myself. Mum noticed the difference in me as well.

"J, you seem down lately..."

The same conversation every day, with the same reply that I'd give her...

I'm fine.

But I wasn't fine. I missed him. Even though I knew he would be coming back it felt like he had vanished.

Happily, Luke returned and revealed he had me on his mind when he was away. We embraced in each other's arms. Relieved to see each other again.
Days that followed were unbelievable. Constantly, we were together, incessantly kissing, repeatedly cherishing each other.

It seemed that no one could separate us. There was only one problem though. Our friends didn't know about us... Mum didn't know.. Luke's dad didn't know... How long could we keep this up for??

"J. I've been thinking."

"What about Luke?"

"I love you. More than life itself J. "

"So do I Luke."

He took my hand and lead me to his car.

"Close your eyes. It's a surprise.". He whispered.

I did as he uttered and closed my eyes. The sound of the car startled me yet I was not alarmed. I had every confidence in him. I put my life in his hands and trusted him.
He lead me out of the car and I could hear silence. I caught the sound of a door.

"Open your eyes J"

A blur of lights greeted me as I unfolded my eyes. A lone table covered in natural napkins; golden confetti, ruby plates and vermilion candles aglow stood in front of me. My eyes met Luke.

"W..what is this?"

He twinkled.

"I needed to make this special..."

He had obtained a three course meal at a peaceful restaurant for just us two. The meal was lovely. Then...

"J, I want to be eternally yours. I couldn't live without you."

Luke fell onto one knee...

"Luke..."

"Jaimie. The first time I laid eyes on you I thought you were the most prepossessing girl I have ever glimpsed upon. You are my everything, my world."

A tear trilled down from my eyes.

"Jaimie, would you do me the extraordinary honour and be mine forever... Jaimie Cole, will you marry me?"

"Yes. Yes."

He presented a box, cushioned inside was the most beautiful ring that I'd ever seen. He held my hand like a prized possession and slid the ring onto my finger. I swung my arms around him.

Now I official was the luckiest girl in the world.
