There was so much blood everywhere; it was splattered up on the cream-colored walls and you wouldn't have guessed that the carpet had been white a few hours ago. Books from the bookcase were ripped and all over the floor, the TV was smashed and chairs were ripped and pushed over. Picture frames were also smashed on the floor, and glass pieces were everywhere. But what had me utterly terrified, were the two bodies lying on the ground above a pool of blood.FOUR HOURS EARLIER
"Mum, is it okay if I go with Harper and Lexi to the beach tonight?" I ask as I slide down the staircase railing.
"Baby please be careful doing that, I don't want you getting hurt." Dad appears at the bottom of the stairs, watching me.
"I've done it a million times dad, and I haven't broken anything yet," I remind him smiling.
"Yet is what worries me.." he says laughing as he walks towards the kitchen. I follow behind him, wondering where mother has gotten to. I find her in the kitchen putting the phone back up on the hook.
"What were you asking sweetie? I was talking to Mary on the phone," mum explains. "She was telling me that she saw these strange people walking around the street earlier."
"Strange how?" I ask leaning against the counter beside her.
"Well she said they were wearing all black and checking out the houses around here," she tells me putting the kettle on.
"Probably just some pranksters or something April, I wouldn't worry about it. You know how Mary is honey," dad says as he kisses her cheek.
Mary lives a few houses down from our small home, she is seventy-three years old and a very strange women. I say strange because she always thinks that there's evil lurking around and that there's supernatural forces out there waiting to get us.
"Yes you're probably right Ben," mum says laughing it off. "So what's the question buttercup?" she asks turning to me.
My mum is roughly 5'2, her complexion is fair with strawberry blonde hair reaching just before her shoulders, and green eyes. She also works down at the local hospital in the children's department, meaning that she's sometimes not home for dinner.
My dad on the other hand is 5'8, his complexion is fair; although very tan from working out on the boats, he has short dark hair and brown eyes. My fathers job is to collect tourists down at the docks and take them for a ride around the place, showing them the few islands and the small reef we have.
I look basically the opposite of my parents; I'm 5'6 with pale skin which I can never get to tan, I have long curly red hair which reaches the bottom of my back and big brown eyes. Sometimes I swear I'm adopted because we look nothing alike but I guess I can thank my great-great grandmother for the fiery mane of hair.
"Oh I was just wondering if I could go with Harper and Lexi to the beach for a few hours. I promise we'll be safe and we won't do anything stupid," I give her my best puppy dog eyes. "Please." My mum frowns slightly as she looks at the kitchen clock then at her husband.
"I don't know Ave, it's nearly seven already," she says uncertain. I glance at the kitchen windows to see it was indeed beginning to get dark outside.
"Let her go April, she's a big girl and can look after herself," dad says while turning to look at me. "As long as you're back before your eleven o'clock curfew Ave," he adds. I nod my head excitedly.
"I will be dad!" I tell him smiling as I give him a quick hug.
"Alright you can go," mum says laughing as I ran over and hug her too.
