From the population that I interviewed, many agree that the internet is a great tool but is often abused.
Many of the elderly people that I interviewed stated that the internet is great for research, but is addicting for younger folks. Another stated that the internet is shaping peoples' opinions differently than if there was no internet. He says that people are starting to use the internet way too much, and that the information is taken and perceived to be correct.
Many teens state that the internet is a wonderful and useful tool. They state that it is great for research, socializing, and passing time. One also stated, "Not only is the technological revolution broadening our horizons in regards to knowledge, but also allows us to access significantly more data in a shorter amount of time; we are slowly becoming more and more efficient because of through luxury of technology."
I believe that the internet impacts people differently. Generally, as a whole, I don't know how it impacts humans' way of thinking. Specifically, the individual data that is collected would be varied. Plus, if a person's level of intelligence has dropped, it can't be assured that it's the effect of the internet. There are many different and unique variables that affect a human's intelligence. Carr's examples are the thoughts and experience of specific people. His counter example is based on history and historical events.
I think that the internet is an object and it is the fault of the humans on how it affects them. To some people the internet has had a positive effect, to others, not so much.
