We bolt down our breakfast, Cho and I, and are just about to leave when the mail arrives. I knew the mail came every morning but I didn't expect it to be like this. About a hundred owls soared into the room, dropping parcels into peoples laps. Cho hurried over to her owl and untied a letter. She ripped it open, read it, and binned it, scowling. 'What...' I started. 'A letter from mum, reminding me its her birthday. How vain can you get?!' Cho muttered as we headed for charms lesson.

Not as bad as my mum, I thought.

charms was taught by a tiny man named professor flitwick, who had to stand on a pile of books to see the class. I learnt to raise a feather into the air with a tricky charm and felt proud of myself. After several interesting lessons and a feast, it was bedtime. I successfully entered the common room, completed the potions homework that horrible Snape had given us, and settled into bed. I didn't feel that any of the teachers liked me, but at least no one knows I am a Lestrange.
