"Emma! Get up! It's 5 in the afternoon!" I heard my mom's annoying voice yell. I've been sleeping a lot later now that I'm in this stupid depressed phase.
"Whhhaaatttt?" I yawned. I turned around to see my mom standing in front of me with a bowl of pasta in her hands.
"Your favorite," she said, handing the bowl to me. My mom always tries to be extra nice to me, but I can be hard to deal with.
"Thanks," I mumbled. It's not like I was gonna eat the pasta, anyway. Maybe a bite or two.
I took out my phone when my mom exited the room. I saw I got a text from Loren, my best friend.
(L is Loren, E is Emma)
L- hey Em. Was thinking of you all day today- I'm sorry. just know that I'm here to help you through this- I know he's gone physically, but he'll never really be gone. love youuu💙
E- sorry I couldn't get back to you, right when I got back home I fell asleep. it's hard, I know. I just wish he was still here so I wouldn't have to go through this
L- how about we go to the skating rink and talk about it, if you want. like we need to hang out. soon.
E- sounds good. I'll meet you there
I locked my phone and got out of bed. I opened my dresser, got dressed for the day, and put my hair up into a ponytail. I looked at my favorite picture of Hunter and I on my night table and sighed. I shoved my notebook and pen into my pocket.
I walked down the steps and into my garage to get my penny board. I'm too lazy to walk places now, because I just slump around all day. I swear I gained at least 20 pounds. That's why I haven't ate in a long time. A long, long time.
The cool wind blew onto my face as I went faster and faster on my penny board. It felt terrible to be outside, but I had to do it for Loren. She's my best friend and we barely hang out anymore.
"Emma!" I heard a voice call. It was Loren, right behind me.
I laid my board on the ground and sat on the bench next to the rink. Loren came up next to me- she was wearing a gray crop top and jeans.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She asked. Ugh.
"You know what's wrong. Don't ask- I don't want to talk about it." I mumbled.
We sat in silence and watched the boys skating on the rink.
"If you're not going to talk to me, then I'm leaving. Maybe you need some alone time," Loren sighed. She got up, took a deep breath, and started walking home.
She's always been the social kind of person who loves to talk. I used to be that way.
I took out my notebook and pen and started writing.
I liked to write stories. I still do, every once in a while. Hunter used to love reading them- he couldn't wait until I became a bestselling author.
But little did he know, every story was about him. Every story was based off of every fight, every moment we had together.
I sighed and continued writing. After about 20 minutes, I was so absorbed by the words on the paper that I didn't notice a boy was standing right in front of me.
"Whatcha writing?" He asked, looking over my shoulder. I quickly closed the notebook and looked at him.
He stared at me and bit his lip.
"Aren't you supposed to be skateboarding with your friends over there?" I asked in a rude tone. I didn't want to be rude- words just come out of my mouth now. But he didn't seem to mind.
"Those aren't my friends. I just came here because I need to clear my head. Then I found you sitting here and you looked sad. So I want to help." He said, taking a seat on the bench. No ones ever offered to help me before- they've just wanted to help because they felt bad for me. But this kid genuinely wanted to help me. That means a lot. I'll give in, I thought.
"There's a lot going on right now in my life and I can't seem to get away from it. It's hard," I sighed.
"Hold that thought- I forgot to ask.
What's your name?" He asked.
"I'm Emma. You?"
"I'm....."
