Clarissa's POV

unedited

---------------------------------------

I was awakened by ear curdling screams and vicious snarls. I pushed the covers off of my body and began the long trek across the room, to my window. As I peeled back the curtains, I saw a battlefield. The once green grass, now lay thick with blood and everyone on the field was either dead, injured, or fighting.

Some protecting the injured, while others fought for themselves. The wolves in my line of sight were drenched in blood. There was a blur of colors, everywhere I turned, I saw crimson red mixed with a variety of once gorgeous, majestic, colors of fur. I closed the curtains once the sight had begun to leave imprints in my mind. I walked over to the closet and quickly tried to find a place to hide, but having no luck, I ran to my parents room.

All of my nerves began to creep up, from the back of my mind. What is going to happen? Are my mommy and daddy alright? My thoughts began to form a cloud over my nerves, allowing me to think of what I need to do. I soon approached the gigantic doorway, and tip toed secretively into their room, unsure of what I would find behind the doorway. I slowly opened the door, only to be met with darkness. The only light was coming from the digital alarm clock, my mommy used to wake up with. I walked further into the room, seeing a figure lying  on the bed.

As I neared the sleeping figure, I made out the features. Long blonde hair, blue eyes, plump pink lips, and that ridiculous smile on her face.

    My mommy.

I reached out towards her shoulders to wake her. I started to gently shake her, when I heard a loud, vicious snarl from the doorway. I whipped my head in the direction of the doorway, only to see an enormous, shaggy, brown wolf. I let out  loud wail, as the wolf had begun its race across the room.

My mommy shot out of the bed, looking around frantically. Once her eyes landed on the shaggy wolf, she sprang  in front of me. Her and the wolf went tumbling to the ground. I heard the ripping of clothes and automatically knew what was happening. I rushed over to the light switch and quickly flipped it on. It flickered on, in just enough time to see my mommy turn into her stunning, white wolf, in just enough time to jump out of the way of the bulleting wolf running  straight for my mommy.

The wolf rammed her against the wall, and bite into her left flank. She yelped in pain, as both a signal of pain and a cry for help. The shaggy, brown wolf began to pace in front of my mommy. Her eyes clouding over, like a fog seeping into the hills. I knew she was calling my daddy, telling him to come rescue her. She hobbled upwards, and turned to face the unknown wolf. The brown wolf lunged at her, but her being slightly smaller gave her the advantage, she was fast on her feet. She sunk her jaws into his ear, ripping a chunk of it off.

She brought her head around to check on me, while the other wolf was recovering. She began to walk towards me, when she was thrown backwards by the shaggy wolf, hitting the wall.

As she lie there, whimpering in pain, I felt a sickening, and excruciatingly painful pain rack through my body. I let out a loud scream, as my bones began to elongate and change position. Fur sprouted from my arms and my mouth, soon became a muzzle.

Realization dawned on me, I was shifting!

I shut my eyes, trying to lessen the pain, but to no avail. The pain began to wear down to only a dull ache in my body. When I opened my eyes everything hit me all at once. My sense of smell had become enhanced, as well as my vision and hearing along with it. My mommy stared at me, shock evident in her pretty face, all the while, the brown wolf gave a snarl in my direction.

I looked from my mommy to the brown wolf, then looked down at the ground. Then, I saw paws where there should be feet and pure black fur, my fur so black it looked blue. I looked up again to see the brown wolf moving in on me, with my mommy trying to get up. As the wolf advanced, I came face to face with a decision. I can run, or I can stay and help my mother, and possibly kill the wolf.

I am staying. For Mommy! I shouted in my head as I charged the ugly wolf. I jumped onto its back biting and clawing at its neck, back, and sides. The wolf was still shocked I had attacked it, but now I want it gone! I hopped down and as it started to come to realize, I was stalking him, circling him.

He realized I was trying to kill him. I dashed towards his neck and leapt at just the right moment, latching onto his neck, while he bucked, trying to throw me off. I applied as much pressure as I could. The shaggy wolf began to wobble, finally his legs gave way and he fell to the ground. With all of my strength, I pressed my paws against his chest, teeth still in his flesh, I managed to rip out his throat. Killing him.

My mommy shifted back and attempted to stand, but fell back down almost immediately after her attempt. I slowly approached her, not knowing what to do. Suddenly she began screaming, gripping onto her chest. After a couple of minutes, she stopped screaming, but had begun to cry. She continued to cry; because she didn't have enough strength left in her, she slowly dozed off into a troubled sleep, using me as her pillow.  I dozed off in mere moments after she did.
