*Later that night*
My minds spinning. I literally have so much going on right now. Now I have to deal with Aiden.
I arrive at my house and walk to the front door. 'Finally' I tell myself, home at last. My dad hasn't been around much. He left when I was about 3. My mom always told me stories about him. But she always seemed to be hiding something, almost like there was a missing piece of the stories. I won't lie, I wish I could meet him. I don't remember much when it comes to him. But for some reason, I always remembered his smile.
I walked through the door and set my stuff down on the floor. I searched everywhere for my mom, but I couldn't seem to find her anywhere. I walked to the back door and saw her. She was crying, tears flowing down her cheeks in a zig-zag formation. She held her head low. The light from the moon reflecting off the tear stains on her cheeks, allowing you to see she has been crying for a while.
I slid the door open and took one step out onto the concrete. There she sat. Something silver shinning in the light caught my eye. She was holding...a necklace? I could hear the sad sobs coming from my mom. When she looked at me i could see it all in her eyes, she didn't even have to say a word. She eyes seemed, almost grey. They weren't their normal color of soft blue. She has so many emotions swirling in her eyes. Sadness, anger, confusion, but most of all loneliness. I sat down and put a hand on her back. She rested her head on my shoulder while she continued to cry. I sat there in the pure moment of comfortable silence. I felt there were no words at the moment that were sufficient enough to comfort her.
"Mom.." I finally said breaking the silence, after a while of sobbing. I stared into her big blue eyes and she looked back into mine.
I knew there was something she didn't tell me, but I also knew by the look in her eyes, she didn't want to tell me either. I continued to hold her not saying a word, trying to come up with something to say.
"Mom, what is it?" I finally said. She looked up at me and stared into my blue eyes. One of my favorite features I had inherited from my mother.
"Today.." She said softly but her voice breaking from the tears.
"...was our anniversary.." She finally let out, then continued to cry. My mother doesn't talk much about my father, so it's rare I actually get to hear about him.
"We were in love. We loved each other so much." She smiled softly then continued.
"You were our most prized possession. We felt like we couldn't do anything right in life, but when we had you..the moment I looked at you, I knew that you were no mistake." She smiled and looked at me with happiness.
"Mom, why did he leave us?" I asked the question that has been burning in my mind for 16 years.
"He told me he couldn't handle all the pressure that everyone was putting on him. He said he wasn't fit to be a father. So he filed for a divorce and left." By the time she was finished telling me she had more tears streaming don the sides of her face.
After so many years of not knowing what happened to my father, finding out he left because he thought he wasn't fit to be a father, only enraged me more. Me and Austin have the same mom and the same dad, so when my dad left, he not only left 1 child but 2. Austin has always been around to keep an eye on me.
"How could he leave when I was only 3 and Austin was only 5?" I asked my mom gaining her attention again.
"I don't know, but he never same back. Every month we get a check in the mail from him for child support, but other than that I hear nothing from him." Is all my mom said before getting up and brushing off the dirt from her jeans.
"I think I'm going to head to bed sweetie. You have school tomorrow so don't stay up too late." She says before kissing my forehead and turning to the back door and going inside.
I look up to the stars and think about everything that has just happened and what has happened over the past few days. I wonder how my father can just up and leave out of no where an don't bother to see ho his 2 kids are doing.
As I'm gazing up at the stars I noticed a shooting star. Before it's too late I quickly think up of a wish to make.
"I wish my mom can find true happiness again.." This is truly what I want. I don't want some expensive car or for some guy to fall in love with me, I just want my mom to feel happy again.
With that I too get up and head towards the door. As I enter I noticed someone stumbling in through our front door. As I take a closer look it's Austin with Aiden hauling him inside. I quickly notice that Austin is drunk.
"Austin, what the hell." I say as I glare at him. I look up to give a sympathetic smile to Aiden, because he had to watch over my older brother.
"He was at a party. He called me said he needed a ride home." Aiden says hauling Austin up to him room.
"Well thank you for watching over him." I say returning back don stairs with Aiden after gently putting my brother in him bed.
I reach up to grab a glass out of the cupboard when I notice Aiden is at my side.
"Here let me help you with that." As he reaches up to the shelf and grabs a glass, handing it to me.
"Thanks." Is all I say as I fill the glass to the rim and get a couple of Tylenol and head back to my brothers room.
I set down the glass and pills and exit him room leading Aiden back down the stairs to the front door.
"Thanks again for looking out for him." Is say gently as i open the door.
"No problem. Just tell him to give me a call when he wakes up in the morning." Aiden says as he exits the house but not before turning around to offer me a small smile.
"We should hang out some time soon." Aiden says smiling.
"Yeah definitely." I say waving goodbye and closing the door behind me and walking back up to my room.
I get ready for bed and let today's events play through my mind once more before falling into a deep sleep.
