The bomb exploded into a million pieces. I was thrown back against the wall. The loud bang of my head hitting the metal was nothing compared to the sound of the explosion that kept on echoing through the hallways. I was deaf for the screaming and running footsteps around me. Even for Julian, although he might not even have made a sound. The fatigue of the last few days settled in on me. With the blood and fire everywhere I knew giving up would be easy.
After a last deep breath I closed my eyes and let go of my holding on mentality."She is...nowhere close..." A female voice said. "No, she isn't, but she is your daughter," a men replied," don't you want to protect her? You saw the bloodtest..." I choose that moment to finally open my eyes while breathing hard.
A woman with bright blue eyes and blond hair hang over me. "Hi Love, my name is Sinclair. I am the doctor here. Let me help you with that." Softly she slid a oxygen mask over my head and strapped it down. "Try to sleep, okay? I'll wake you up in a few hours to eat."
She left with the men she had been talking too. It took a while for me to take in where I was. A short look at my hand told me I wasn't burnt.
In my head I reconstructed what had happened.
I discovered I once was an Elite child. I discovered that the board had disgraced me because of something my parents had done. Then I found out about the Pact of Lights, a secret organization in the lower levels that wanted to take over the power. I had been on my way to spy on them through the air shaft when Julian, my best friend, had yelled at me to come down because of the bomb. When my feet had barely touched the ground it exploded.
Sweating I opened my eyes with the images still very vivid. Where is Julian? I thought. I sat up staggering just as the curtain surrounding my bed was pushed to the side. "What are you doing," asked Doctor Sinclair. I opened my mouth to answer her, but she shut me down by gently pushing me back into my pillows. For a second I saw a look off hope cross her face, before she seemed to turn the doctor back on. "You can not speak, because you throat was damaged by the explosion. All I want you to do is drink this and go back to sleep, okay?"
I shook my head. I had to know where Julian was. My hand went up to the oxygen mask, but she swatted it away. "Do that one more time and I will give you a sedative, understood?" The fear must have been clear in my eyes for all I knew of sedatives is that you got one when they send you to the Front. You function fully the first few hours before you realize what you are doing. So that you don't pull back at the first sight.
"Not that kind, just something that will let you sleep for hours." I nodded slowly. She handed me the cup but my arms couldn't hold the weight of it. As soon as she saw my arm go down she reached out and caught it. "I got you, Beau," she said and gave me a smile. Carefully she removed the oxygen mask and helped me drink holding my head up a little.
When the bottom of the cup came into sight I was exhausted. My eyes where already closed by the time Doctor Sinclair slid the mask back on. Before my head hit the pillow I was asleep. Just before I moved to dreamland I heard the Doctor mutter. "Goodnight, my Daughter."The first light of the sun shone through the window on my face. Blinking I worked myself up until I supported myself with my elbows. Somebody scrapped their throat next to me. Julian, was my immediate thought. As quick as my body allowed me too I turned and put my feet on the cold floor. In my baby blue short and shirt I shuffled to the bed next to me. With a wildly beating heart I pushed away the curtain. Inside the bed was an elderly woman. "Sorry," I mumbled closing the curtain again. Next bed. He is in the next bed, I said to myself. But the next bed was empty. As was the next. Then there was a younger guy but not Julian. There was one more bed with the curtains around it closed. Almost crying I swallowed before I pushed it aside a little.
There stood Doctor Sinclair with a man. He showed her something on the screen of his tablet. As soon as he laid eyes on me he pushed a button and it went dark.
Slightly angry he pushed me aside. I took a hopeless look trough the hospital room. Doctor Sinclair grabbed me by the shoulder so I shook her off. "Julian," I said loudly, running towards the door. Strong arms grabbed me from behind and lifted me up. "LET GO," I exclaimed. The next few minutes was a chaos of arms and legs until a young woman came in and helped Doctor Sinclair.
"Esma, hold her," Doctor Sinclair said as she started to pin me down to the bed with leather straps. I kept on flailing as I yelled for Julian. "STOP IT," yelled Doctor Sinclair," or I'll give you a sedative." This time it didn't work. Even though I was tied down I screamed and cried for my 'older brother'.
Esma went away and came back with a syringe. "Last chance", the Doctor said. "JULIAN". The syringe went into my arm quickly. Slowly falling away my cries and words turned softer and softer until they faded away in to nowhere.Doctor Sinclair, or Janet Sinclair, cradled the girls head while she slipped away into sleep. She swallowed and send Esma on her way to check on the other patients. Breathing deep she fell into one off the chairs next to her bed. Opening her tablet she saw Beau's file. It only had 5 sentences in it.
Beau Sinclair is an exiled Elite child. Daughter of Janet and Dominic Sinclair. Send to the middle levels. Will be trained for the Army when reached the Age.
IS NOT ALLOWED TO CONTACT HER PARENTS.Hours past until the silence broke. "Doctor Sinclair," said a men's voice. It was Racgo, head security, of Base One, at the metropolis. "Yes, Racgo, how can I help you," she said as she stood up. He gave her a heavy look as he gestured to Beau. "I am sorry, Janet," he said," but I am here to take your daughter."
A tear escaped from the grasp of her blue eyes. "As we fight, the little one falls," she said cryptically, but Racgo understood what she meant. "She will be absolutely safe, Janet," he said while putting his hands on her shoulders," I promise you." She nodded. Two man from the TUAC (Tactical Unit Against Crime) came in and rolled Beau out towards the exit. "Take this," Doctor Sinclair said," she wore it when she was brought in. I guess Julian gave it to her."
Racgo looked at the necklace while pain filled his eyes. "Have you told her yet," he asked scrapping his throat. "She hasn't woken since she got out of bed to find him, so no." He nodded. "I'll keep you updated, as always, okay?" Doctor Sinclair nodded. "I'll see you again," she said as Beau was rolled trough the doors, eyes still closed. Please let me know what you thought of it in the comments! ;)
