my dear, if only we could be together

The smile that played on his lips. The bout of laughter. Not because of you. Black hair. Raven eyes. Eyes that sparkled with a million stars in them. Not to you. How you longed for him.

"(F/N)-chan!" Kageyama ran up to you, sports bag swinging at his side. "Are you going to the library now?" You turned, a smile on your lips.

"Hey Kageyama, going to volleyball practice?" He nodded, then bent down to lean in near your ear.

"Guess what? I'm going to go confess to Hinata today." You froze, breath caught in your throat. Your lips spread shakily.

"Really, Kageyama? That's great! I'm sure it'll go out well." You turned, back facing him. "Tell me how it went." He smiled.

"Thanks (F/N), I'll be sure to remember all the pointers you gave me." He ran towards the gym.

Turning your head around, staring at his retreating back, the realization of how cruel unrequited love was hit you.

A bent head. Full of obsidian colored hair. Not for you. A hunched figure. Trembling lips. Tear stained eyes. Not because of you. How you longed to be by his side.

You sighed, slowly making your way over to Kageyama. He lifted his head. Bloodshot eyes and a red stuffed up nose greeted you.

"He said he didn't swing that way. He scoffed at me. He said, it's probably just a phase. Was he always this cruel? Or did I just not know him from the start?"

Softly massaging his shoulders, you bite your lip, debating whether to say the speech that you had worked on so hard. 

"Sometimes people can be cruel. This world is cruel. People can't always know what to say at the right times. Loving someone, it's like handing knife over and praying that you won't get stabbed. " Kageyama sniffed. 

"So what? What do you know about love?" He hissed mockingly. "I bet you've never been in love before!" He shook you off of him. "You always spout your romantic nonsense, but in the end, none of your useless advice works. You're so stupid."

You clenched your fists, trying to control the shakiness in your voice from showing. 

" You know, Kageyama, I can understand why Hinata doesn't like you. Your heads so up in the clouds, you think everyone likes you. You act like a king. And you were, to me, in my heart. I wanted you all to myself. Was I selfish? Maybe. But seeing how all my kindness gets thrown back in my face after sticking with you so long, I can say that I longer want to be by your side."

Kageyama gaped at you, your confession thrown out so wildly. Spinning on a heel, you turned to walk the road home.

Wide deer eyes. Confusion mixed with disbelief. Because of you. Mouth open. Reeling thoughts. For you. How you despised him.

but alas, you are too blind to this thing called love.
