I slip my bra and panties on then tie my red silk robe around me. Walking to the kitchen, I pour myself a glass of orange juice. When it's about halfway gone, I see movement in the doorway. "Hey," Amy says, walking to the fridge.

"Hey. When did you get home?" I ask.

"About twenty minutes ago," she says, sipping on a bottle of water. "Luke and I were six movies into Fast and Furious and then his fiancé got there. She whined to him to come to bed so I left," she rolls her eyes.

I chuckle. "I have a feeling we're not going to get along with her very well."

She shrugs. "Oh well. At least we'll get free food and cake at the wedding. They're gonna have an open bar."

Placing my glass down, I hop onto the counter. "Now I have a reason to go," I smile.

She shakes her head. "You would've gone, anyways. I don't know what happened between you two but he seems upset about it. You should go out for lunch or something tomorrow. Talk it out, you know."

Another figure appears in the doorway and I look between Jake and Amy wide-eyed. She stares at him in shock. "Jake, this is my best friend and roommate, Amy. Amy, this is Jake."

They exchange awkward nods. "I thought you were out here alone," Jake says, scratching the back of his neck and wearing only his black boxers. "I'll be in the room."

He disappears into the darkness and Amy turns to me. The moonlight lights her shocked expression. "Juliet," she says cautiously. "Do you know who that is?"

I shrug. "His name is Jake Tyler Adkins."

"Juliet, that's Luke's uncle," she says quietly.

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. "He's like eight years older than us."

She nods. "Remember when we were eight and Luke had that cool birthday party at the arcade," I nod. "He told us the cute guy playing pool was his uncle and we didn't believe him. Jake is Luke's dads half-brother. Apparently his grandpa cheated. He was sixteen when we were eight."

Realization clicks and I bring my hand to my forehead. I remember that day. All the girls thought he was so cute. Luke said his grandpa had another kid with someone else, giving him an uncle. When Jake's mother passed, he moved in with his biological father. "Oh my gosh. That was the only time I have ever seen him – how was I supposed to know?" I ask in panic.

She places her hand on my shoulder. "It's fine. Luke will never know. Just end things with him and move on. You should see someone your own age anyways."

I nod. That's just what I'll do. I'll send him home and pretend nothing ever happened. "I will," I breathe. "Good night."

"Good night," she says.

When I get back to the bedroom, Jake is fully dressed. I lean in the doorway and cross my arms. "Are you leaving?"

He nods. "Yeah. I'll call you tomorrow," I nod and he kisses my cheek. "You never told me your name."

"Juliet," I reply softly.

He smiles. "Beautiful. Just like you."

He kisses me once more before walking away.

It's been two weeks since that night with Jake. The first week and a half, I received a bunch of calls and texts but I've ignored them. For a few days now, the texts and calls have stopped. I've thrown myself into work to keep my mind off of things.

"I got this for you," Luke's voice rings from behind me.

Ignoring him, I snap my vest shut. Before I can put my gun in its holster, Luke grabs it. "Luke, I'm really not in the mood for your bullshit today."

He holds out a box. "Please open it. I miss the way we used to be."

Sighing, I take the box. If I know Luke as well as I think I do, he wouldn't have given up until I gave in. Inside the box is a gold Beretta. The small engraving on the side says:

Stand by me in my wedding?
-Luke

"How can I say no after this?" I ask playfully, a smile playing on my lips. He always goes over the top with these things. "Of course, Luke. I'd love to."

We wrap our arms around each other for a big hug. "I'm sorry about being a dick the other day." He says, slightly pulling away to look at me. "Everything that's happening is just happening so quickly. I have a lot going on right now. That's no excuse to be an asshole though, so I'm sorry."

I pat his back before letting go. "It's fine. Your business isn't mine. I wouldn't like it if I was in your position and you were saying stuff about it. I apologize, too."

He smiles. "Great. Her name is Jennifer. She wants to meet you and Amy."

My smile falters but I manage to keep it up. "Sure."

When Amy gets there, the three of us go into the apartment building. Turns out the guy ran off when he heard we were coming after him. His neighbor said he left about an hour before we got here.

So after we changed back into our normal clothes, Amy and I go home. She begs me for hours to go out with her and after a while, I reluctantly agree. We get all dolled up before going to the bar down the street.

It's just a small bar but it's always packed.

When we finally get to the bar, we sit on the bar stools and order drinks. Numerous men have hit on us just walking from the car to the bar stools. So when a man about my age sits down next to me, I just keep my attention on my drink. Amy has her full attention on the man beside her as they flirt back and forth. "Can I get you something?" the man beside me asks.

"I'm a lesbian," I say, then point towards Amy. "She's my lover."

He leans forward, taking a look at Amy as I sip on my drink. He chuckles. "She doesn't look like a lesbian to me."

I furrow my eyebrows in confusion as I turn towards Amy. She is now in a full make out session with the man she just met. Sighing, I turn to the man. "You caught me. We're straight. Now what can I do for you?"

"Let me buy you a drink," e says, waving the bartender over.

"If you're expecting me to go home with you, then stop now. I'm not -"

"What is with you big-headed women that automatically assume things?" he shakes his head. "Can I buy you a drink and have a conversation with you?"

I nod sheepishly. "Okay."
