At around five the next day, my phone rings beside me. I pause my movie and answer it. "Hello?"
"I'm on my way to pick you up," Spencer says.
I shake my head. "I don't want you here. Plus, I can't leave whenever I want if you're my ride."
He sighs. "Then meet me somewhere."
"Maybe I don't want to," I say.
He groans. "Then I'm coming over."
Before I can reply, he hangs up. I press play on my movie and wait. Spencer appears in my doorway after a while and my eyes widen. "How did you get in here?"
"Amy let me in," he shrugs.
He tosses his jacket onto the chair before sitting in the edge of my bed. I turn the TV off then cross my arms. "Can we get this over with?"
He nods, getting up to close the door. "The reason why I couldn't be honest with you is because no one can find out. I'm an undercover cop."
I furrow my eyebrows. "I find that hard to believe. You were the ringleader yesterday. Everyone was under your command."
He sighs. "The boss was out of town so he left me in charge. I've been working with these people for over a year so I've earned their trust. I can't lose it."
"Spencer, you could've told me the truth. How did you expect to be together if all you've told me was lies?" I shake my head. "Unbelievable."
He places his hand on my leg, leaning forward. "I couldn't risk anyone finding out."
"I wouldn't have told anyone," I snap. "How can I trust you after this?"
He looks away for a long moment before turning back to me. "Juliet, I am begging you to give me another chance. I'll be honest with you from now on but you have to promise not to tell anyone about this."
"What am I supposed to tell Amy and Luke? They were both there when we found you," I point out.
He shrugs. "Let them believe whatever they want because it's honestly none of their business."
I look down at my fidgety fingers. "Spencer... before I met you, I was kind of seeing someone. We hadn't talked in weeks before I met you but he was at Luke's wedding last night," I say softly.
He removes his hand as if I've burned him. The room is silent for a long moment. "You kind of broke up with me so it's not like you cheated if anything happened."
He turns to me almost expectantly. Like he's waiting for me to confirm whether or not I screwed around. "I don't think I owe you an explanation," I say quietly.
He nods. "Of course not. I should get going. Text me?"
I nod. "Sure."
He stands up to leave but hesitates. Leaning down, he kisses the corner of my lips. Slowly, he moves over and kisses me softly. "Bye, Juliet."

I walk out the door wearing a pretty blue dress. Jake's black Audi is waiting in the driveway. When he sees me, he gets out and opens the passenger door. "You look great," he says, kissing my cheek.
"Thank you," I smile.
He takes my small duffel bag and places it in the back seat before getting in the car and driving.
After talking to Spencer, I decided I needed a few days without him to figure things out. Agreeing to go with Jake somewhere wasn't exactly the best way to do it but things just sort of happened. He asked and I agreed. We're going to Clearwater, Florida because he has business to handle, as he put it.
I didn't hesitate to say yes. It gets me away from Luke, Amy and Spencer. I'd rather be in a hotel on the beach, anyways. Seeing as it's only February, I won't be able to go in the water due to how cold it is but I'll try to convince Jake to go for a walk on the beach with me. We'll have fun.
We take a private plane to Clearwater where there is another black Audi waiting for us. I knew Luke's family had money but this is a little much. I've never been waited on like this. I think about asking him about his money but I decide it'd be rude so I just sit quietly.
It's late by the time we get to the hotel. A couple men carry our bags up to our room as Jake gets the key. "Right this way, Mr. and Mrs. Adkins."
I bite my lip, smiling slightly. Girls have probably dreamed about being in my shoes with this perfect man beside them. I glance at Jake to see him with a small smile playing on his lips. He looks relaxed. More relaxed than I've ever seen him.
When we get up to the room, he tips the men as they leave. I toss my jacket on the bench as he walks over to the bed, sitting on the edge. The top few buttons of his shirt are undone and his sleeves are rolled up. "Thanks for this," I say. "I really needed to get away."
I stand between his legs, loosely wrapping my arms around his neck. "I didn't think you'd come," he admits, wrapping his arms around my waist.
I press my lips to his forehead and he closes his eyes, taking a deep breath. "Are you happy I did, Mr. Adkins?"
He nuzzles his face between my breasts and I chuckle. "Very happy, Mrs. Adkins," he says before pulling away with a smile on his lips. After a moment, he sighs. "I'm gonna take a quick shower."
I nod. As he walks to the door, he unbuttons his shirt, dropping it on the bench. While he's in the bathroom, I change into his shirt. I only wear my lace panties beneath it. When I lay on the bed, all I feel is exhaustion. I fall asleep before he ever comes out of the bathroom.
