"She what!?"

Hunter nodded solemnly. "Sweet, innocent, angelic Lily was your sister!?" I asked, gawking.

Hunter stared at me, his expression hard. "I shouldn't 've opened up to you. I should've known it was a mistake..." He muttered.

"No, no, Hunter! Hunter, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it like that - Hunter..." I sighed, hugging him. Hunter's eyes were watering.

I looked down, surprised. Here was Hunter, in my arms, doing something I thought he'd never do.

He was crying.

In my arms, crying. Searching for comfort. Telling me things he might not have told anyone else.

Hunter. The guy who had given me nightmares a little less than a month ago. The guy who I had been insanely afraid of.

He was sobbing now. "...Hunter..." I said softly, not knowing what to say. He just hugged me tighter.

After a few more seconds that dragged on like hours, Hunter looked at me. He seemed to have suddenly realised what he was doing, and backed up.

I sat down on the bed. "Hunter... do you know what happened to Lily? My brother never could figure out what happened to her, just that she had died. No one else really knew what had happened either... if it isn't too hard for you to talk about, that is."

Hunter sat down beside me slowly, seeming uncertain. "You... you aren't going to say anything about... that?" He asked.

I turned away from him. "That? What, you showing emotion other than smugness? No, Hunter. I won't."

I felt Hunter do something I thought he wouldn't. He touched my shoulder.

"Katrina... look, I'm not used to... 'showing emotion' because... when Lily died, I shut everyone out. My parents, my brother, my friends... everyone. I hated everyone, and everything. I especially hated myself."

I turned to look at Hunter now, confused.

"You? Why would you... I don't understand what you're getting at."

"I'm really sorry, Katrina... I never thought-"

"Hunter, what the heck are you blabbering on about?"

~>

"Katrina... I killed Lily."
