"Matty?" Kellin called through the house. He had just gotten home after doing the walk of shame, but of course, Vic dropped him off. It was pretty early in the morning, for Kellin at least, so he expected Matty to still be sleeping, but he knew his best friend's sleeping schedule. Which meant that Matty would've been up at around nine, the time was almost ten.
"Matty, dude, where are you?" Kellin tried again. After Matty had told him he lost his job, Kellin knew that he wouldn't have left without leaving a note of some sort. Or calling him, at least. It just wasn't like Matty to do things alone, he spent most of his time cooped up watching Netflix. Sometimes alone, but most of the time either with Lynn or him.
He walked up the steps to their rooms, having checked the living room and kitchen, only to find them void of any life.
"Where the fuck are you?" Kellin mumbled to himself quietly, tiptoeing up the stairs in his own home. He wasn't sure why, but, something felt wrong. Something felt out of place.
It could've had to do with the alcohol he drank last night, but even he knew it wasn't. His stomach had tied itself into knots and his throat had dried up. Suddenly, the tiptoeing didn't seem all that exaggerated but more so necessary because he just knew something was wrong. He could feel it, not in his veins, though, it wasn't pumping through him at an alarming rate like the rush he had gotten last night had, but it was slowly making its way to his heart. Almost as if it was killing him, and it was, because as he tiptoed closer to Matty's room, his heart beat picked up and he tried to swallow the new found lump in his throat.
Then his whole world came crashing down before him.
It was as if someone had broken a glass sheet and watched in slow motion as the pieces broke and cracked into smaller ones, and then smaller ones after that. The pieces that remained on the floor dangerously as someone who thought they were walking on eggshells stepped onto them and screamed out in pain, but no words could leave their lips. The morbid red seeping onto the floor beneath them as tears slipped from their eyes to the ground, blending with the blood and shiny, broken glass.
Pain.
Sadness.
Fear.
Kellin's mind rushed and he felt dizzy and lightheaded. He wanted so badly to scream, but he just couldn't. He just stared in horror at the sight before him: bloody sheets, stained and soaked red, dry parts chipping from the skin around his arms. The sheets were pushed back, the sun shining into the room innocently.
Kellin crumpled to his knees, a shaky sob slipping past his lips. Wrist slashed almost as if he'd done them himself, x's crossed over his eyes, stab wounds to his stomach and side, and his mouth wide open in horror, Matty lay as an unmoving figure against once white sheets.
All at once, Kellin's emotions hit him like a flood. No longer was he fallen to his knees, but he stood up and banged furiously on the walls of the hallway. He kicked his room door open and threw everything everywhere, he broke the mirror and glanced at his disheveled appearance in the shards.
"Why?" His voice cracked, emotions leaking through, not only from his voice, or heart, but in the tears that heavily slipped from his eyes.
"Why!" He screamed, hitting the mirror again and throwing it to the floor, sick and tired of staring at his reflection. He upset and pained by the loss of his friend, his best friend, his fucking brother.
"Why did he have to be it! Why! I'm sorry, okay!? I didn't want this to happen! Why!? Why. . .why. . .why."
In the end, Kellin was nothing but a broken mess. A broken, sad, lonely mess. But who could've done such a thing? Who could possibly be so soulless as to take the life of someone as innocent as Matty? To take the life of anyone at all?
