The box gave Vic a gittery feeling, making his foot bounce up and down in anxiousness and excitement. It sat across from him on the large dining table, staring at him, daring him to grab it. Upon first purchasing it, he was unsure and uneasy, hoping no one had seen him because he wanted to keep this a secret.
After everything that had gone down, press had gotten wind of who was involved and Kellin had been at their mercy. They constantly followed him, prodding him with questions that they never received answers to. Then one day Vic just decided to give them something so they'd lay off for a bit. He had announced publicly at a dinner party that Kellin was his boyfriend and not some distant cousin (which was the lie they had both agreed to). His cheeks blazed in happiness because he didn't expect Vic to announce it so soon. But after being kidnapped and tortured, Vic felt Kellin deserved some sort of happiness, something to look forward to.
And that's exactly what Vic was going to do: give Kellin something to look forward to.
Vic hesitantly pulled the box towards him, the entire room engulfed in a suffocating silence. It was filled with inexplicable tension, but that's only because Vic was having so much anxiety with his decision. He knew deep down that this was what he wanted to do though, but his mind kept trying to convince him otherwise.
He wasn't going to do this publicly, Kellin would absolutely hate that. Instead, Vic sat in an anxious pile of nerves and sweat in the dining room waiting for Kellin to get home from work. After getting together, the two decided it'd be best if they didn't work together anymore, considering the first week of being boyfriends consisted of them fucking at work and not actually working.
But then Vic thought, he had to make this interesting. He wasn't going to go all out and throw such a thing as big as this on Kellin, that would overwhelm him and probably make him cry. Kellin crying was never good. Ever.
Vic decided to grab the box, fingers hesitantly curling around its edges. Adrenaline pumped through his veins, making his hands quiver as he pulled the box down to his lap. He bit his lip in concentration, wondering just how this would possibly go. He had been thinking about this for months now, and it wouldn't leave his mind.
He had been making love to Kellin, who despised his own body, for what purpose though? Because he felt hideous with the nasty scar on his right side. But in that moment, Vic knew exactly what he wanted to do, and it had made every thrust, every hip roll, every kiss, that much more intense.
Amidst his planning, he heard the front door close, followed by the clattering of keys in a bowl, and Kellin calling out, "Vic, I'm home!" His stomach lurched itself again for what could've been the millionth time that day. It was like buying it all over again, checking over your shoulder constantly for anyone watching, for any potential person who might get in the way.
"Vic?" Kellin said, walking over towards the large table Vic was sat at. He furrowed his brows, gazing at Vic's figure who stared at the box in his lap unbeknownst to him. Kellin stood there in his work clothes, black tie loosened on a lime green shirt and slacks that hugged him perfectly from every angle.
"We need to talk." Vic told him, mind racing with fear. Kellin bit his lip and took off his blazer, setting it on the chair he was going to sit on. He sat across from Vic, staring at him nervously. Vic had rarely ever gotten this serious with him, not since the incident.
"What about?" Kellin asked, voice shaky and body fidgety as he drummed his fingers on the table.
"Kellin..." Vic started, making Kellin's heart cringe, "Listen, I've been thinking about this for awhile, and I'm not sure what the best decision is for us." He started, making Kellin's eyes tear up. He knew what was coming, and he didn't want to hear the rest.
"Stop." Kellin told him, turning his head away to hide his face from Vic. He got out of the chair and turned away from him, shutting his eyes as two silent tears slipped past them. "I don't need to hear the rest of-...of whatever you were going to say." He announced, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. He knew this day was going to come, he just didn't expect this to be so soon either. He heard Vic get out of his chair and come around to his side, but he refused to look at him.
"Vic, I-I know we had our ups and downs, but is this really what you want to do?" Kellin asked, heart cracking as the words spilt from his lips. He hugged himself, afraid to look at Vic.
"Yes." Vic said, determined. Kellin let out a shaky sigh, his fingers entwining themselves together.
"But Vic, I don't want to-"
He turned to look at Vic. And for a moment, he stopped breathing. He stopped moving. He stopped thinking. His heart was pounding in his chest, filling with some sort of feeling he had never felt before. He gasped, taking in Vic.
He was crouched on one knee in front of Kellin.
"Marry me."
It wasn't a question. It was a demand. Vic didn't want no as an answer, he wouldn't allow it. He had finally worked up enough courage to walk into the damn jewelry store, buy the damned ring, and get down on one fucking knee and use all his confidence to ask one simple question.
"You are the love of my life, and I swear to god if you say no, I'll cry." He said honestly. He offered a small smile to Kellin who still stood awe-stricken.
"Vic..." And then the water works came. Kellin fell down on his knees in front of Vic and held his hand out in front of him. A flash of excitement, relief, and happiness flashed through Vic's brown eyes.
Carefully, he slid the diamond ring on his finger, a perfect match.
"Yes."
"I love you so fucking much." Kellin whispered, ignoring the tears cascading down his red cheeks. "And I also really fucking hate you for scaring me like that." He told him, laughing through his tears.
Vic gave him a sheepish smile, "I didn't know how to plan it. And then you got here. I had been waiting months to ask you, but I never had the balls until now." Kellin pulled Vic towards him, crashing his lips against his and wrapping his arms around Vic's shoulders. He sighed in relief against Kellin's lips, heart absolutely content.
"Well it's a good thing you finally had the balls to do it because we're going to need them for our honey moon." Kellin whispered, smiling devilishly. Vic laughed and kissed Kellin again softly.
"I love you." He told him, heart swelling in adoration for the man who found his heart and stole it.
"I love you, too." Kellin whispered, pulling Vic in for one more hug, "So much."
