Emma's POV

One Week Later

I woke up and sat on my bed, the remnants of last week flashing through my mind. I had almost lost my life. What if things had gone differently?

"Emma," my mom's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. "You need to get up and get ready for school."

"Okay, Mom," I replied, shaking off the lingering heaviness in my chest. I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom.

As I was about to take off my clothes, my phone buzzed. I picked it up to check the message.

Ethan: Want a ride?
Emma: Yeah, sure.
Ethan: I'll be there in a few :)
Emma: Okay, cool :D

I smiled at the screen and placed my phone back on the dresser before heading back to the bathroom to finish getting ready.

After brushing my teeth and washing my face, I returned to my room. I pulled my hair into a messy bun, tying a black and gold ribbon around it. I opted for a black hoodie and gold skinny jeans, pairing it with my trusty black Converse. My makeup was light, just enough to cover the scars, and then I grabbed my phone and book bag before heading downstairs.

"Need a ride?" my mom asked as I walked past her in the living room.

"No thanks, Ethan's picking me up," I said, heading for the kitchen.

I set my book bag and phone on the kitchen island, grabbing an apple and taking a bite as I waited. The doorbell rang, and I knew it was Ethan.

"That must be him," I said, walking to the door. I opened it to find Ethan standing on the steps, smiling. Without thinking, I kissed him on the cheek before heading back inside to grab my things.

"Bye, Mom. Bye, Amber," I called as I walked out the door, closing it behind me. We got into the car, and Ethan started the engine.

"Where are the others?" I asked, settling into the passenger seat and putting on my seatbelt.

"They're on their way," he replied.

The rest of the ride to school was quiet, comfortable in its own way.
