Chapter 2
An Unforgetable Face
When the Hogwarts Express finally pulled to a stop, Lisette was fast asleep. Mason walked over to her and tapped her arm. Unexpectedly, Lisette jolted upright and grabbed Mason's hand in a killer grip.
"Good morning!" She smiled, loosening her grip around Mason.
Touching his pink arm, Mason sighed, "You really got me there."
"I know." Lisette snickers, making her way off the train.
"Oh, have you heard that we're going to have our O.W.Ls early this year? Yep, apparently they've decided to teach less...or maybe cram it all up into less lessons. Oh, dear. This is not good." Brielle blabbered.
"Ughhh..." Lisette whinned, "Would you stop worrying, already? It's just O.W.Ls. Anyone can fling it."
Brielle looked down at her feet, walking alongside Lisette and Mason.
By the time the three had reached The Front Hall, everyone was either hugging old friends, yapping away, charging up the stairs to the common rooms or standing still, waiting for the crowd to die down. Like most, you would think that the trio would wait for the crowd to decrease. Infact, Brielle and Mason were planning to do so, but Lisette went forward, nudging people out of her way until she reached the Slytherin Common Room. She set her things down and plonked herself onto her bed. She smiled at the snake drawing she had drawn in year 2 with permanent marker on the wall to her left. Of course it could be erased with an easy spell, but she found it funny that nobody had bothered to take it down.
Back at The Front Hall, Brielle walked over to some of her Ravenclaw buddies and began talking in all sorts of witty conversations. Mason on the other hand decided to follow Lisette. He slowly traced up the stairs, when suddenly a girl came rushing in his direction, dropping her wand from the impulse.
"Oh, dear. I'm so sorry!" she held her hands up.
"No worries!" Mason walked down a few steps and picked up her now-broken-wand.
"Thank you so much!" she received the wand from his hands.
"You bettter go to Ollivanders, then." Mason grinned.
"I guess so..." she trailed off.
"Well, I could come with you. I mean, it's pretty much my fault that it's broken." he shrugged.
"There's no need for that," she insisted, "I'm in a rush anyways."
"No problem. You carry on." Mason nodded.
"Thanks!" she beamed and turned before skipping away.
"Wait, but...I don't even know your name..." he whispered, when the girl had already disappeared to the opposite side of the room. Turning away, Mason walked up the last few steps and wandered to the common room.
"Why the long face?" Lisette asked, noticing Mason enter the room.
"Huh?" he looked up, "Nothing."
"Right..." Lisette rolled her eyes, "If you think you can hide a secret from me..."
"I'm telling you, I've got no secret." Mason insisted.
"C'mon...it's really obvious, Mase." Lisette snickered.
"I already told you. No." he face-palmed.
"So be it." Lisette shrugged, returning to a new piece she was drawing on the wall.
Mason walked out the door and into his dormitory.
That night, as the moon dawned over the midnight sky and Mason and his roommates lay asleep on their beds, a snowy owl chirped outside the window. Mason got up and walked over to the sill, opening up the window for the owl. It had a bright pink letter in it's claws, stamped with a bright red seal. Mason gripped the letter as the owl flapped away. His fingers drew open the letter and scanned over the text.
Mason, thank you for helping me today. You're the most wonderful man I've ever met! I couldn't stop thinking about you all day. I need to see you! Come...come closer.
Mason felt himself being drawn to the open window. He slowly stepped over the window sill and sat himself down on the edge.
"Come closer, Mason! I need you!" a voice called.
Mason inched closer and then suddenly, in a blink of an eye, jumped off the window sill and flew downwards. The air rushed past him as the grown sucked him up.
Mason juddered before jolting upright, gasping for breath. A sigh of relief rushed over him when he realized it was only just a dream, but the sound of the girl's voice still wrung in his ears like an everlasting buzz.
"You okay?" Mason's roommates ran to his side.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Go to sleep." He lay back down on his bed. This time though, he couldn't fall asleep. The image of the girl's face was unforgettable. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Mason feared that the dream was a warning–to tell him to stay away. She didn't seem dangerous at all, though. She seemed anyting but that. He was drawn to her and he couldn't stay away. He had to know who the Mystery Slytherin Girl was.
