Chapter 3
Making an Impression
The next morning, when Mason had awoken, he found himself exhausted. It felt like he had been running laps around the Qudditch Field the whole night.
"Wake up sleepy head!" one of his roommates, Austin called, "Time for breakfast!"
"Better hurry," the other roommate, Carter advised, "I heard that all the first years are gobbling down the cakes!"
Mason giggled before dragging himself out of bed.
"Alright, alright. You two go on without me. I'll catch up with Lisette and Brielle." he nodded.
"Right-o!" the two boys left the room.
Mason slipped on his Slytherin uniform and a silky, black robe. He paced himself outside, until he came upon Lisette and Brielle's dormitory. With a knock on the door, the two girls jumped outside and closed the door behind them.
"Good morning!" Brielle grinned.
Mason returned the smile.
"Let's go to breakfast. I'm starving!" Mason began to walk out of the Slytherin Common Room, Lisette and Brielle making sure not to fall too behind.
Once they had reached The Great Hall, the trio hurridly sat in three empty seats; two next to each other and one across. Mason sat across from Lisette, already picking out delicacies onto his plate whilst Brielle and Lisette sat next to each other, calmly chosing what to eat. As Mason clumsily stuffed food into his mouth, Lisette stared at him dully.
"What? I may not be a Ravenclaw, but I sure am ravenous!" Mason mummbled through his bites.
"I can see that..." Lisette rolled her eyes.
"So..." Mason began after he had finished eating, "You know Quidditch Season is coming up in a few weeks."
"Cool!" Brielle beamed, "I love watching Quidditch."
"Yeah, but hopefully they have better players this year. I can't believe Gryffindor beat Slytherin last year. It's all thanks to that silly seeker, Harry Potter. He thinks he can do anything and everything. Malfoy better step up his game this season. Now that Lucian Bole's gone, the team will be needing a new beater. We better get a decent one." Lisette remarked.
"I think that's the longest thing I've heard you say in a long time..." Brielle looked stunned.
"Well, the girl's got an opinion." Mason shrugged.
"Anyways, what do you think, Mason?" Lisette turned the attention away from her.
"About what?" he frowned.
"Quidditch, of course!" she chuckled.
"Oh...umm...I was kinda thinking about joining the team this season." he spoke.
"Gracious me!" Lisette baffled, bits of food flying out from her mouth onto the plate in front of her, "You can't be serious!"
"Well, I was thinking about being the new beater, to replace Lucian." Mason sighed.
"What the bloody hell are you thinking?" she spat, "You can't be a beater, Mason!"
"Okay, I'll be a keeper then." he suggested.
"No, okay. Just accept it Mase, you aren't fit to play Quidditch and you never will be. The best you can even get in Flying is an P...a Poor, Mason. Not even Acceptable." Lisette shook her head.
"Well, I think I'd make a great beater." Mason announced, bravely.
"Well, I'd like to see you try!" Lisette smirked.
"Deal. Try-outs are everyday this week. If I don't get in, you win. If I do, sucks for you." Mason declared.
"Consider it done." Lisette grinned.
Brielle stared blankly at Lisette's expression.
"You know he doesn't stand a chance, right?" she asked Brielle.
"Umm...I don't know...I...I rather not have an opinion." Brielle said, smartly.
"Whatever." Lisette crossed her arms.
After Lisette had decided to go to her dormitory, Brielle asked, "Why are you doing this, Mason?"
"Because I want to." he frowned, "Is there a problem with that?"
"No...it's just...you've never been interested in quidditch before. What's with the sudden change of interest?" Brielle questioned.
"Well, I've always had a thing for quidditch. I just...I'm not that great at it." Mason explained.
"Then why even bother trying out?" Brielle glared.
"Because I have to!" he leaned closer.
"No you don't, Mason! Call the bet off. It's silly, anyways!" she squinted.
"I can't do that, Brielle. It's important, okay? I don't have a choice." Mason raised his hands to his face.
"When have you ever not had the choice to choose if you want to join the quidditch team or not?" Brielle glared at him, waiting for an answer.
"It's hard to explain, okay? I..." Mason began.
"Mason, stop it! Have you gone bonkers?" Brielle yelled.
"Shhh! Quiet...I'll tell you why okay? But, you must keep it a secret. Don't even tell Lisette or your Ravenclaw buddies. Nobody okay?" Mason leaned in, even closer.
"Okay." Brielle nodded in agreement.
"There's this girl...I really like her and I just want to impress her. Please, Brielle...trust me on this one. If I do anything wrong or something bad happens, I promise I'll back out of it." he begged.
"But..." Brielle stuttered.
"Please!" Mason pleaded, "I'm doing the right thing."
"I hope you are..." Brielle sighed.
