Note: Welp. Here you go. I was bored on a Wednesday night, no work to complete for school, and an urge to write. This will be a make up for the delay. Hope you all enjoy!

Can you just step out of my life for a little bit?
Why? I thought you didn't want to be alone.
I know that, but that doesn't mean that I want someone around me all the time.
Well too bad. You wanted company? You get company.
Ugh.
--------
I ponder my choices I have, as I slowly walk down the dry dirt road in the middle of the barren forest pathway. I groan silently, my mind aching from all the thoughts that had rammed through my brain the past night. I look around, unamused, at the same, dull green leaves, attached to the branches which attach to the grass below. I glance to my left, the blue hedgehog walking silently next to me. All the noise that could be heard, was the wind blowing through the gaps of the leaves, and our shoes dragging along the dirt. This has to be the most awkward moment in my life so far, I repeat in my head. I wish this could end by a clap of the hands, or snap of the fingers, but things don't work like that in reality, only imagination, which I didn't really know I had. Sonic has sucked me into joining him on his voyage to Rose's house, to check on her. I personally would like to be back in my house, not giving to shits about anything that's happening beyond my concern. But I can't always have my way.
"So," a voice slices through the thick bricks of silence that surround us both. I peak at him, seeing in his facial expressions that his next sentence got jumbled up in his lungs.
"Mhmm?" I add, not knowing how to keep the awkwardness from adding on to what's already here. He jerks towards me, catching my attention. I look at him, vice versa. His big, emerald eyes cutting deep into my eyes, begging for me to strike up a friendly conversation. I have no topics to discus with him, and even if I did, I still don't want to be dragged into a conversation with him.
"You worried about Ames?"
"Rose is the least of my problems, not my concern."
"What's with you and your snotty one-liners?" He questions me. I can respond however I want, and so can he, I'm not holding him back. "I can respond however I please." I pick up my pace. "Keep up, hedgehog." I'm trying my hardest to avoid these awkward conversations to the best of my ability.About 10 minutes later, we arrive at Rose's porch. I fold my arms impatiently, not wanting to be in the presence of an over-dramatic fangirl and dumber over here. Sonic looks at me, with that look of his. His stupid eyes, why does he have to give me that look? "Well, we're here."
"Great." I spin around, beginning to walk away. Sonic tries to call for me, but all that ends up coming out is a pathetic little squeak."Shadow, you can't leave yet." I pretend I'm too far away to hear him, although I'm only about 6 feet away from him. I continue to slowly storm off. I step off of the stairs and go to walk back towards the direction we came in, when he rests his hand on my shoulder once again. I can feel hot anger rising in my head. "You can't leave yet. You haven't even seen her!"
"Get off me." I clench his wrist, and fling it off of my upper body. He swears yet again. Pathetic, and they call him a hero?He holds onto his wrist, his ears folded slightly, and a large pout placed on his muzzle. "Alright, but, can you just stay for a few minutes at least?" He asks. I can see humiliation yet anger mixed together wanting to overflow from his tone, but instead, he keeps it for himself. I sigh heavily. I then place my arms at my side and walk back up the porch steps. Sonic smiles. Damn him.
"Thanks Shadow." He smiles as he gently knocks on the door to the pink hedgehogs' house. A few minutes later, the door creaks open softly. My eyes dilate slightly, seeing Rose. She looks nothing like she did before. Although, Sonic immediately wraps his arms around the female gently, as she does the same. I know Sonic, no matter the appearance, it's the heart that matters.
Rose looks like she's aged. But she hasn't. Her bright pink quills weren't bright, they were dull, and little patches of her quills were missing from her head. Her energetic green emeralds were faded, looking empty and weak. Basically, this whole 'coming down with the flu' business really drained all the life out of her system.
She looked at Sonic, and glanced at me. "Hi, Shadow," she spoke quietly. Chaos, even her voice was drained. What exactly has she contracted anyways? She invites us inside, and we accept. Her and Sonic take a seat on the love seat couch, while I typically lean against the wall. Sonic smiles. I glance around the room, curiosity getting the better of me. I then spotted an old photo of Rose squeezing the day lights out of the hedgehog. Comparing her from then to now, what a difference.
"How are you feeling Ames?" Sonic asks gently, wrapping an arm around her neck and holding her close. My ear twitches at the sound of her quiet purring, slicing yet again, the thick bricks of silence that surround us. "I'm okay, a little more tired than usual though." She smiles. "But, I bet if I just get lots of rest, I'll be better in no time." I highly doubt sleeping with put an end to this unpredictable illness she's contracted. He smiles.
"I don't think sleeping will do any good." I add on. The blue hedgehog sending me a look that clearly states, please, shut up. No. Rose stares at me, a little frustrated. "What do you mean? How would you even know? You've never been-" Her sentence is interrupted by a dry, yet somehow wet cough. Chaos, it sounds like she's trying to throw up her lungs. After her little attack, she continues. "You've never been sick." Correct, congratulations, caption obvious.
"True. But I've studied it way back when. And sleep won't do you any good." I lean off of the wall slightly. Her look turns from disbelief to anger. "Shadow, don't tell me what I should and shouldn't do."
"Then stop acting like you have an entire dictionary shoved into your brain." Her eyes widen. So do Sonics. She gets fed up with me. Rose rises, and magically pulls out her hammer from thin air. Now that, that hasn't changed one bit.She gets ready to swing her hammer towards me, I show no sign of concern of interest to be honest. Sonic readies to stop the strike, when Rose suddenly strikes down her own attack with a coughing attack. Her breathing suddenly roughens, clenching her chest, nails digging in. Sonic panics slightly, I don't show any worry of the girl. After a few minutes, she sits back up.
"Get out of my house." She demands. I get an early ticket to leave. Just what I needed. As I walk towards the door, Sonic calls me. "Shadow, wait-"
"Sonic. You too." Rose demands, looking at her hardwood floors. He looks at her, dumbfounded. "W-What?"
"I said, GET OUT."
He quickly stands, escorting himself out of Rose's house with me, slamming the door behind him."You couldn't just keep your mouth shut, could you?" He questions me, rage boiling through him. I don't respond. But just as I take a breath to speak, I feel a sharp pain across the side of my right cheek. I know what happened. He slapped me across the face. I glared at him. He glared at me. He growled loudly, turning away and storming off into the woods. Just when I thought I had gotten my wish of peace and quiet at last.
I was wrong.
